We're into stoppage time. Wales have the ball, but in their own half...

And in a blink of an eye, South Africa snuffle possession and the ball disappears somewhere into the stands. Game over. Wales are out. South Africa march on.

Wales with the penalty, they take it quickly. Ken Owens... Rhys Priesland... Jamie Roberts... meters are made, but Wales must conjure a miracle try from inside their own half.

Two minutes remaining and the Springboks aren't going to surrender possession with ease. Although, Patrick Lambie goes for the dropper and misses. Wales have the ball but in their own 22.

The men in red spin it wide. Lloyd Williams is bellowing at Wayne Barnes, telling the referee he can't get the ball - but the referee deems that Jamie Roberts is holding on and South Africa can boot to touch, boot into Wales half, and run down the clock.

That's poor defensive work. We've seen brilliant defence from the whole Wales team. Alex Cuthbert has to offer himself to anyone coming round."

That was a piece of genius from Vermeulen to set up that try.

Duane Vermeulen with a peachy flick from the base of the scrum and scrum-half Fourie du Preez dashes down the blind-side and dives over. Alex Cuthbert being drawn in, creating space for the number nine. Handre Pollard misses with the tricky touchline conversion, though.

While Dan Biggar debates with his physio, South Africa prepare to put in at the scrum... "I know it's really noisy, let's just respect each call, OK," says Wayne Barnes as the front rows go nose first to the turf.

    We go again.

It's a strange decision taking Gareth Davies off. I know he's tired but he's in the game."

Lloyd Williams is on the pitch, by the way, instead of Gareth Davies, and Dan Biggar departs, too, although he's arguing with the physio. The outside-half doesn't want to come off.

We're into the last 10 minutes. This is when anxiety starts to take a hold... who can keep their head, keep calm, when history is beckoning?

South Africa still monopolising possession, still sniffing around Wales' 22m, but Wales manage to turnover - but the men in red aren't in numbers and Wayne Barnes tells Paul James that he's holding on. Oh my word.

Remarkable defence from Wales. You keep thinking the dam must break... How are any of the forwards still standing? Exhausting from 60m away.

    They say forwards win matches.

If Wales make it over the line it will be down to their pack, they have made 107 tackles between them.

And that defensive effort was led by Dan Lydiate with 21 tackles alone.

Alex Cuthbert fleet of foot down the wing, cutting back inside and getting over the gainline... Wales recycle... the forwards battering on... but they're not getting beyond the 22m - and Ken Owens is caught holding on, which allows South Africa to clear into Wales' half.
