France need to score first in the second half whether it's a penalty or, preferably, a try. You sense if New Zealand were to score quickly then French heads would drop and the game would be beyond them."

  8. Savea tops try scoring chartspublished at 20:54 British Summer Time 17 October 2015

    New Zealand 29-13 France

Julian Savea is his country's top poacher at this World Cup and in the first half it was evident why. The winger takes some stopping. Actually, there's no stopping him. He's now scored seven tries in this tournament, two more than the best of the rest.

Julian Savea may have been born in Wellington, but that last try owed plenty to his Samoan heritage.

It was the textbook Samoan sidestep - changing direction to run over the man rather than round him - that did for Noa Nakaitaci and Scott Spedding for his second score.

A breathless first half. It has been a performance with more stardust and sparkle from the All Blacks, but there have still been glimpses of a soft underbelly in defence.

France came back from 14 points down to win in that extraordinary 1999 World Cup semi-final. They have further to go now.

Each time France get the ball it is a nervous time for New Zealand. Sixteen points ahead suggests the All Blacks are in control but you are never comfortable against the French. They have talent to burn. The All Blacks have stepped up and still France are not out of this."

Nehe Milner-Skudder showed dancing feet for New Zealand's first try.

Julian Savea has just shown a battering ram of a shoulder.

The New Zealand wing boshes through the tackles of Noa Nakaitaci and Scott Spedding, leaving both men flat on their backs and choking on fumes.

Dan Carter just wide with the conversion.
