"New Zealand know they can do better, but huge credit must go to the Springboks. South Africans can be immensely proud of their side, but both teams put everything into that game.

"The All Blacks have a few little improvements they can make, but that's a magnificent preparation for next week."

All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw still has a chance of becoming the first captain to lead a team to two World Cup titles.

The flanker tells ITV Sport: "We did it the hard way today. It was always going to be that way but we've got a crack at it next week.

"Our discipline was keeping them in the game, we had to find that bit extra. We've been saying they would bring everything. There were no surprises and we had to dig deep to get the result."

"South Africa were out on their feet, but they didn't have the game plan. New Zealand didn't play their best but they had enough in their locker.

"They were dominant when they had the ball, and when they didn't have the ball."

All Blacks fans celebrate in the London rain. New Zealand deserved the win, scoring two tries, creating the better chances, dominating possession and territory and, in the second half, they stopped conceding penalties at the breakdown.

That was brutal, as anticipated. The All Blacks know they were in a massive scrap, which will be great for next week."

These aren't conditions for a length-of-the-field try...South Africa's forwards charge forward but gain inches rather than metres.New Zealand's defence is an immovable force.

Jerome Garces toots his whistle and brings this chokingly-tense match to an end.

Thirty seconds to go and South Africa have the ball but they're in the shadow of their own posts.

Dan Carter stepping back... the dropper? Nope. South Africa's defence was alert and rushed out to stop the outside-half from pulling the trigger. All Blacks with possession though... Sonny Bill Williams twisting, twirling, offloading. South Africa needing a miracle. And the ball.

New Zealand with possession, camped in enemy territory... the forwards gaining the hard yards. South Africa's Damian de Allende is penalised for not releasing in the tackle. He's gifted a put-in at the scrum for the All Blacks. Surely New Zealand won't cede possession from here on.

New Zealand content to keep South Africa pinned in their own half. This is not a time for flair, not a time for the soft brained. Boot to ball from Beauden Barrett, it trickles over the whitewash but even a 22m drop-out eats up seconds.

Pat Lambie gang tackled by Sam Whitelock and Kieran Read and the outside-half, as most mere mortals would, loses possession. New Zealand upping the ante when the pressure is at its most intense. All Blacks with put-in at the scrum just inside South Africa's half.

Class cover from Dan Carter, effortlessly gliding over the turf but what a brilliant kick it was from Lambie."
