Bryan Habana thought he had got away with cynically knocking the ball from Aaron Smith as the All Black scrum-half attempted to set his back line rolling. The Boks winger did not prevent a try, but he's still punished for his maverick ways.

All Barrett had to do was fall over the line. It was coming, time after time, wave after wave. It was panic stations as far as South Africa were concerned."

New Zealand knocking, threatening to blow South Africa's defence off its hinges. Dan Carter rips the ball from Schalk Burger... All Blacks ruthless, they zip it wide... Ma'a Nonu making inroads and releases Beauden Barrett, who dives over the whitewash from 5m. Dan Carter at his shar-shooting best, knocking over the conversion from the touchline.

  6. South Africa 12-10 New Zealandpublished at 50 min

New Zealand restored to 15 men as Jerome Kaino's 10-minutes in solitary ends. Beauden Barrett has been introduced to the match, too, and he almost makes an immediate impact, but Julian Savea fails to gather an inviting grubber.

South Africa at the moment are playing a poor kicking game, straight back to New Zealand and they are under pressure again."

South Africa's defensive kicking has dropped a notch. Dear Springboks, you don't want to be kicking into the arms of Julian Savea and his fellow speedy bruisers.

Both teams kicking back and forth... Damian de Allende decides to run back at the All Blacks with interest.... Bryan Habana chases a grubber, but catches Nehe Milner-Skudder's heels. Is someone in trouble? The referee thinks about it, but lets Habana off the hook.

A great strike, he composed himself very quickly and he never looked like missing."

A messy line-out, ball without an owner - but Richie McCaw dives on it and presents it to Dan Carter who bisects the posts with a dropper at lighting speed. Clinical.

  12. South Africa 12-7 New Zealandpublished at 45 min

All Blacks using brains as well as brawn. A brilliant kick and gather from full-back Ben Smith, gaining acres for his team... a grubber from Nehe Milner-Skudder bobbles into touch. South Africa pinned inside their own 22.

    South Africa 12-7 New Zealand

Those hours and hours of smashing into the training ground tackle bags have paid dividends for South Africa. The Springboks have crunched into 75 tackles - more than double of those made by the All Blacks (34). Unsurprisingly the top five individual tacklers are all wearing green and gold.

It was interesting to see the New Zealand players come out about five minutes before they needed to to get used to the rain, and certainly they have adjusted well in the first few minutes."

Dan Carter sends the ball to the moon and back... Willie Le Roux comes rushing forward but he fails to hold on to the ball. A first error under the up-and-under from the Boks' full-back.

It all leads to an All Black put-in at the scrum in enemy territory... but the green shirts drive, wheel and turn and Jeromes Garces has no option but to toot his whistle against the discombobulated All Blacks.

Angry skies above Twickenham, dark and menacing, much like the All Blacks, really. Dan Carter boots the ball into South Africa's 22 and the second half is under way.
