"I'm surprised by Italy. Italy are much stronger than us in the drives and line-outs. Defensively we are not very well organised."

You and me both Thomas. Italy are looking useful - strong up front and Garcia and Campanero both sniffing out space in midfield.

Mark Adamoulas: Seriously though. Elite international rugby players, 0/5 kicks. Appalling. Utterly dreadful.

MT Sherlock: Worst half of goal kicking. Ever been a match when all place kicks are missed?

Gary Hughes: Is it no longer the rule that the throw in should be straight? J. P. Doyle hasn't penalised crooked throws once.

Dai Trembath: Wish Parisse could play for the Lions when they tour New Zealand.

    Surely! No!

Michele Campagnaro is a fingernail short of the line as Gael Fickou's despairing tackle proves just enough to halt his momentum in time for France.

That is the final phase of the first half.

John McEnerney: With every game, Parisse pushes himself towards the All Time Great status. What a player, leader & soon 2 be a legend of the game!

    Crossy: Same old France.

DW Jones: I like the new French second kit. Very stylish.

Gareth Vaughan: Cannot believe I am saying this but it appears France are missing Bastareaud's ball carrying directness in midfield.

"At this level you expect to see those go over. The standard of the goal kicking in this game today is amazing. I think the crowd are in shock to see those missed."

Five kicks at goal so far and none have been successful. Carlo Canna flops his shot well wide,

Just have to run it lads.

They could sell tickets to this one.

Sergio Parisse and Yoann Maestri have a little push and shove at each other after the whistle has gone.

Full-blooded fisticuffs is averted but Italy's Carlo Canna is going to take a shot at goal from a decent spot.

France take advantage of a bit of hoo-haa over a deliberate knock-on from Sergio Parisse.

The crowd were baying for a yellow card for the Italy captain. The man himself was making puppy-dog eyes at referee JP Doyle.

And Gael Fickou tapped and went.

Italy short-staffed and it is flanker Damien Chouly who crashes over in the corner.

Sebastien Bezy still stinking the place out off the tee - a horrible conversion attempt misses.

    France 5-8 Italy

Italy have already had seven penalties called against them and there is only half an hour on the clock.

That is one back in the bag for them though as Sergio Parisse - their figurehead - clamps down over an isolated French runner and wins a turnover to ease pressure.

"They did everything really well. Sergio wins the ball in the line-out and they shift the ball out of contact to the outside. It's an easy decision for JP Doyle to make once they're over."

Once Sergio Parisse plucks the ball off the top of the line-out, Italy form around him as tight, compact and strong as a Sherman tank.

France forwards, by contrast, are flaking away from the rolling maul all over the place.

Parisse ploughs over at the back and Italy are back in front.

Carlos Canna misses with the extras.

    France 5-3 Italy

Never mind the magic sponge, try the magic of a gap.

Italy centre Gonzalo Garcia had looked like he was ready to come off with Kelly Haimona warming up on the sidelines.

But given a chance to make yards he is magically cured. His break takes Italy up to within 10 metres.

    France 5-3 Italy

The Six Nations has started off where it let off in 2015 - all very open.

Not quite the full-contact basketball of the final day just yet, but Italy sweep upfield after Lorenzo Cittadini strips possession inside his own 22 metre.

Both sides are looking to offload out of contact.

Shaun Gibbons: Quality try from France...

Jon Evans: I can't believe they didn't check that foot in touch on TMO. Very poor from the officials. Not doing their jobs there.

Craig Stewart-Toner: Rugby on TV, less than desirable weather, warm house and plenty of nice food. Love 6 Nations weekends at home!
