Matthew Thorne: History in the making!!! Come on England! What a defensive effort and Farrell may have just finished it off! Nearly in tears

Pan Panayioto: England showing true meaning of resilience. All of us could learn from this performance!

Andy Brown: Where did that come from?who cares!!

Edward Poole: Jamie George with more vision than most international backs out there!

Not wishing to kick a man at a moment like this, but Eddie Jones has given England that bit of devil they seemed to lack under Stuart Lancaster. With that victory, England have leapfrogged Australia into second in the world rankings, which is a nice bit of icing.

"A huge moment for English sport. What a fillip for the country. It's an incredible effort mentally as well as physically. Too many times we've whinged at how tired the England squad are at this time of the year - but if England want to compete in 2019 they have to compete in big games abroad."

Well, I don't know what Eddie Jones has got, but I wouldn't mind having some of it. He's not only injected some lead into this English pencil, but he's sharpened it so it's a deadly weapon. Sydney next week, and England will fancy making it a clean sweep.

The Wallaby spirit is doused, their scrum disintegrates and England's forwards celebrate. Farrell lines up another one, slings it through, and there's the hooter. Great, great England victory. One of the finest ever? And a first series win in Australia.

    Australia 7-20 England

England with an unintentional tribute to Muhammad Ali, classic rope-a-dope. Australia emptied their tank in attack and were caught with a sucker punch. Farrell, I should have pointed out, kicked the extras...

"Monumental. Historic. Owen Farrell was Johnny on the spot. Unbelievable defence. England just turned up time and time again. Phenomenal - Owen Farrell chased up the middle and went down under the posts."

The tension is palpable, thick as leek and potato soup. Australia inching over the England 10m line but once again it's coughed up. Lawes goes on the charge, George kicks through, Farrell gathers and touches down! Australia mugged on the counter!

Ford kicks for territory, wise man. England line-out and Eddie Jones rings the changes, George, Launchbury and Clifford enter the fray like knights in shining shirts. Haskell hobbles off wincing, like a man who has played the entire match with stones in his shoes, it's been another fine effort from the Wasps man.

Itoje secures the line-out, Brown tries to carry clear but his legs are like fag ash beneath him. Knock-on, the 13th handling error of the game from the hosts. Never mind the players, I feel like I've been given a proper kicking just describing it.

Farside1: Looks like AUS will eventually win this by being the side going forward but heroic defence by ENG. proper rugby

Kenny Kong: @EnglandRugby have been superb in defense, Robshaw in particular on his 50th cap. Australia simply not going through

Bit of space out wide for Australia but Krudrani is snagged by Watson. Fardy knocks on and Farrell, strangely, opts to run rather than kick. Brown is charged down by Haylett-Petty, England line-out. The England full-back has a spot of cramp, it's that kind of game.

    Paul Grayson
    Ex-England fly-half on BBC Radio 5 live

... Foley kicks to the corner, not sure that was the right decision. But we shall see. They win the line-out and come again... you almost want Australia to land a telling blow, just so England can have a bit of a break... Robshaw hacks clear! Magnificent from England, absolutely magnificent.

Australia muff things up out back and England bring it clear. Youngs should have kicked, Australia have it back and are on the attack again... Itoje off his feet, Aussie with a penalty bang in front...
