Dan Chalkley: Both Captains, Both Hookers, Both scoring a try?! The rugby gods are on something I think!

Ben McLeod: My lower sixth are allegedly reading Elton on the Practice of History in the library. Suspect they are watching England make it instead

    Australia 7-10 England

Billy Vunipola kicks into touch, believing that's the first half done, but referee Joubert calls the line-out. Odd. Arnold with the take, under pressure from Itoje, Australia asking tough questions... Kerevi almost through, great hands Kuridrani, good defence England... Haylett-Petty almost in, slides in a couple of yards short... Kerevi with a one-handed shovel out wide, penalty called... Haskell on Kerevi, Haylett-Petty again... advantage over... knock on Phipps, unbelievable defence by England, that's what Test match rugby is all about, folks.

It's been a slug-fest so far, although not literally - yet. Folau in space after a poor kick by Youngs, Foley with the half-break... nice interplay between Kerevi and Folau and here comes Fardy! Good scrambling by England and the ball dribbles into touch.

"Australia needed to find something and they did it straight from the restart. If England think Australia will just roll over and take what's coming to them - absolutely not."

Dave Sommerville: This pitch is cutting up far too much for it to be considered a rugby test venue in future

John McEnerney: The Aussie backlash is just waiting 2 happen not 2 many Aussie sides lose 2 test in a row, Lions 01 & 13 know about that!

tim parham: Farrell keep that scoreboard ticking over

Marc Jenner: Heading to Costinesti by the Black Sea and following England on #bbcrugby. England for the series and Romania for the Nations Cup tonight!

Australia with the line-out drive and over they go, Stephen Moore matching the feat of opposite number Hartley. Foley's conversion attempt looks like it's going to miss left but suddenly straightens and sails through.

McMahon latches onto Foley's restart and the Aussies apply some pressure. Stout defence by England, gold shirts ricocheting off a white wall... Brown off his feet, penalty Australia... Folau has a dart but is smothered, Joubert whistles again, Haskell slowing play down. Foley to the corner...

Ed Powell: How on earth is the pitch test match standard? (No pun intended)

Marts: May as well be playing in a beach, pitch shocking

Stroke Bet: "Slipper" is not a great name for a front row forward playing on a soft pitch

Pete Ostler: Maro Itoje is 21 and already an absolute monster. Going to have some career that lad

Rory Taylor: Don't know what's crumbling quicker, the surface or the Australia scrum?

"Every set-piece, England are nailing Australia. James Slipper was lucky in a scrum there, he was the first one to lose his bind. Behind him all the boys saw the turf peel off their boots. It makes it difficult to form a proper scrum."

Kruis takes at the line-out but Australia stem the drive. But it's an England penalty bang in front, that's the sixth the hosts have given away. Farrell pops it over...

Here we go again, Itoje getting in Aussie faces, and referee Joubert tells both skippers to get a handle on things. Scrum just inside the England half and the Aussie set-piece disintegrates. Farrell finds touch, watch out for another line-out drive...

This pitch will resemble a potato field by the end of play, great sods of turf coming loose at every scrum. Kerevi carries the ball clear, Nowell fields an iffy clearance, Australia win a penalty at the resulting clearance.

That was only Hartley's second try for his country, by the way. Ford with a naughty sand wedge, cross-kick and Australia look rattled. If anyone wants to get involved on Twitter, you can do so via #bbcrugby. More handbags at the breakdown, I wager those handbags will develop into something more serious - sandbags, if you will - before 80 minutes are up.
