    Australia 32-41 England

Eight tries, six points the difference... Owen Farrell with a chance to extend his team's lead to a more comfortable margin with 10 minutes remaining. It isn't straightforward - 30 metres or so out, to the left of the uprights -  but one of the world's most reliable kickers doesn't miss.

It was a tale of two shins, first Nick Phipps threw the ball at Israel Folau's shin to give the ball to England and then it bounced off Jamie George's shin for the try.

What a bizarre sequence of play.

Australia in a muddle, unable to get the ball away, Owen Farrell runs one way, taking the attention of Australia's defence, but the ball is really with Mike Brown who has gathered the loose ball. Cunning. The men in white breathing fire... they spin it to the other side... England closing in on the whitewash... replacement Jamie George attempts to gather, shins it, but it doesn't matter because he's over the line and celebrating the try. Owen Farrell with an easy peasy conversion.

Australia kick straight at Mike Brown and they're under the cosh, unable to get out of their own 22.

England turnover ball and forward they go! Owen Farrell releases Anthony Watson but the winger runs out of space and is gang tackled by a pair of Aussies, one of whom was Bernard Foley. The other? Who knows, and there's little time to review because Australia are running from deep!

Oh Australia, you can't keep giving Owen Farrell shots at goal like this. The centre lasers one over. One point in it.

What I have really enjoyed is Nick Phipps, the half-back, he is taking one step and engaging the first defender and with Israel Folau in space, no-one is going to catch him.

  10. try

Simple. Effective. Matt Toomua has found space on a number of occasions and he does so again from midfield. Billy Vunipola misses his man, and the centre puts the onrushing Israel Folau free on his inside. Bernard Foley looks like he's misjudged the conversion, but how wrong we are as the ball curls in, a perfect bend.

In the modern game the bench is critical, they have to come on and finish the game off, have an impact and lift their team-mates.

Australia's scrum punished, wheeling around. The front row grimace, they know they've given a straightforward chance to Owen Farrell on their 22. Trouble-free three points. Free lunch to Farrell.

Brilliant from Scott Fardy, turning over ball from Maro Itoje, who hasn't been at his sparkling best. A number of replacements for England as Harlequins pair Danny Care and Jack Clifford come on. Ben Youngs and Chris Robshaw are the men to make way.

Australia spin it one way, then the other. Feather-soft hands from prop Sekope Kepu as the forwards take over. Michael Hooper appears on the outside, Dan Cole is in his way, but the flanker wriggles over. Nigel Owens asks whether there is any reason not to award the try, and there isn't. The crowd roars. Bernard Foley adds the extras. There's nothing in it.

Australia, what have you got? Matt Toomua bursts through midfield... replacement Adam Coleman gallops from deep, takes his team within 5m of England line and the Wallabies have been awarded a scrum.

I wonder if Michael Cheika has the nerve that Eddie Jones has to make changes? The Australian pack looks rattled.

  17. Penalty - Farrellpublished at 48 mins

    Australia 18-25 England

A touch outside Australia's 22m but the uprights are straight ahead of him. Owen Farrell with his usual aplomb and a seven-point lead opens up.

    Australia 18-22 England

It was a dodgy Stephen Moore line-out which ultimately led to England's try and Australia are once again having problems with their line-out. The visitors steal the ball, barge forward. Will Skelton attempts to bring down the driving line-out but Nigel Owen catches him and Owen Farrell will have a chance to make amends for his missed conversion.

I think that is a pre-called move. That is an under-12s try, go short and they won't stop you, They got channel one ball, straight from the feed, he went over almost untouched.

  20. try

Try - Billy Vunipolapublished at 43 mins

A honeyed platform from the England scrum. Billy Vunipola emerges from the base, Australia's defence in disarray, the number eight is explosive from 8m out and there's no stopping him. Owen Farrell misses the conversion. The centre should have nailed that.
