  1. Missed penalty (Hook)published at 15:41 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Gloucester 3-0 Bath

"You can't even steal an inch."

JP Doyle makes sure James Hook doesn't creep forward as he lines up yet another huge kick from behind the halfway line.

    But it lands just short.

  2. Penalty (Hook)published at 15:37 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Gloucester 3-0 Bath

    We have lift-off!

A monster kick from James Hook puts Gloucester on the board.

His first kick of the season.

  3. Penalty (O Williams)published at 15:37 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Sale 24-23 Leicester

And there's some second-half points for you.

Sale penalised for a late tackle by their new addition Halani Aulika at the breakdown.

Owen Williams slots a simple effort over from 22 metres out to get us back to within a point.

  4. Sale 24-20 Leicesterpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

Change in the front row for Sale inside six second-half minutes as prop Kieran Longbottom sadly has to make way for Halani Aulika through injury.

Real shame for Longbottom, who finally made his Sale debut last weekend in the 34-34 draw at Worcester after having to wait 15 months due to long-term injury issues.

  5. Gloucester 0-0 Bathpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

Who needs 44 points? We've had 44 scrums here at Kingsholm.

  6. Sale 24-20 Leicesterpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

Four minutes gone in the second half and surprisingly, no points so far.

Instead, a few errors and infringements from both sides have crept into their play on the floor.

  7. Gloucester 0-0 Bathpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

First start of the season for James Hook and he's offering a bit of sparkle to this game.

A lovely pass out wide to Henry Purdy earlier in the game and this time he dances away from the Bath defence.

But not to be outdone, Ross Moriarty gets involved with a one-handed offload in the tackle, before the attack comes to an end as Purdy knocks-on.

  8. Kick-offpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Sale 24-20 Leicester

And we're back under way at the AJ Bell Stadium for the second half.

What odds on the same number of points as the first half?!

  9. Gloucester 0-0 Bathpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

Bath are inside the Gloucester 22 for the first time this afternoon.

And George Ford goes for the drop-goal but his attempt hits the left upright. They needed more patience there.

Still no points after 23 minutes in what's been a cagey affair.

  10. Gloucester 0-0 Bathpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

Conditions are certainly playing a part here.

Semesa Rokoduguni launches a high kick and Henry Purdy, with the Fijian in his eye-line, comes up with an unforced error, the ball slipping through his hands.

Bath hoping for a solid scrum here. And guess what? They get a penalty.

    Jenna Hawkey
BBC Radio 5 live at Kingsholm

"Tensions are certainly high in this West Country derby and they've already been spilling over on the pitch.

"The greasy conditions haven't been helpful to either side, but the biggest surprise here, though, is that Greig Laidlaw has lost his 100% kicking record, missing his first kick of the season.

"Otherwise it's looking like a pretty even contest."

  12. Gloucester 0-0 Bathpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

But alas, it comes to nothing. George Ford sent his kick way too long and Gloucester have the ball back.

We're back in a familiar pose as the forwards bed down for another scrum. Greig Laidlaw with the put-in and this time the home side are awarded a penalty.

It could be a long old day at the scrum.

  13. HT: Sale 24-20 Leicesterpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

  14. Gloucester 0-0 Bathpublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

Well, in complete contrast to the AJ Bell, we've had 15 minutes here at Kingsholm, no points so far and not too much to report.

We've been stuck in the scrum for the past three minutes but Bath win the penalty and get good ball from the line-out. Their first real attack I'd say.

  15. Half-timepublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Sale 24-20 Leicester

And that is the end of the first half.

Five tries - three for Sale, two for Leicester. Forty-four points in total and one rather frazzled live texter.

I'm off for a lie down in a dark room while Louise keeps you posted with events at Kingsholm.....

  16. Sale 24-20 Leicesterpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

Half-time approaching at Sale and the hosts stand firm in defence as David Seymour wins the battle on the floor with Dan Cole.

The England prop is adjudged off his feet inside Sale's half and the Sharks can kick it clear and go on the front foot in the closing minutes of this first half.

  17. Gloucester 0-0 Bathpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

The home side have had all the possession so far. Charlie Sharples with a lovely jive down the wing and they're up to the five-metre line.

Gloucester are threatening hard here as the noise from The Shed rings around the stadium.

But Richard Hibbard takes the ball in and loses it. Opportunity missed.

  18. Missed penalty (Laidlaw)published at 15:08 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Gloucester 0-0 Bath

It should've been an early settler for Gloucester, but captain Greig Laidlaw pulled an easy kick wide.

He's slotted 39 out of his last 40 kicks, but he couldn't get Gloucester off the mark this afternoon.

  19. Gloucester 0-0 Bathpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

It hasn't taken long. Less than five minutes and the players are already at each other's throats.

The penalty went against Henry Thomas at the scrum and frustrations boiled over.

    Nothing serious though.

  20. Penalty (O Williams)published at 15:04 British Summer Time 1 October 2016

    Sale 24-20 Leicester

Just under seven minutes until half-time, but there's still no let up in the scoring in Greater Manchester.

Another penalty successfully kicked from Owen Williams claws Leicester back to within four points after Sale are penalised at the scrum.
