You would think that Craig Joubert would want to stay out the spotlight after last year.

The South African referee has to call play to a halt after getting in the way of a Nick Phipps snipe.

    Wales 3-20 Australia

Ross Moriarty - who has had some eye-catching moments, flattens Nick Phipps as the Aussie scrum-half holds onto the ball a half-second too long.

There are some skirmishes in midfield. Not a lot of pattern to this passage, full of offloads and sideways running.

    Scrum Australia on halfway.

Wales have got to use more creativity with the forwards handling the ball and putting the backs into space.

    Wales 3-20 Australia

Bradley Davies wriggles away from contact and offloads to Justin Tipuric.

The Wales flanker is snared though.

Wales are finding some pockets of space, but are not converting them into acres and points.

    Wales 3-20 Australia

Justin Tipuric intercepts a pass and briefly the fans are on their feet before he is buried beneath a pile of gold and green.

Wales are moving the ball wide looking for a hole.

  6. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Wales 3-20 Australia

Some serious crossed wires in the line-out as Ken Owens lobs one in and nobody in red gets off the floor.

Wales' set-pieces are coming apart now.

  7. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Wales 3-20 Australia

Wales have had plenty of the ball early in the second half. They don't have much impetus though.

They are not coming onto the ball with the pace of the Aussies and after five, six, seven phases they have lost yards rather than gained them.

Scott Fardy has come on for David Pocock in the Australia back row. Dan Biggar to get us back under way.

I think Wales have to loosen up a little and be creative.

They have to play in the right areas but it is easy defence for the Aussies. The difference in creativity in the two back lines is startling.

Wales have to pick the intensity up and see if they can get on that front foot.

Australia should have been out of sight. If Wales can get over the line the stadium will pick up and the momentum will be with them.

    Wales 3-20 Australia

When these two teams met two years ago on 8 November 2014 it was 21-21 at half-time, with the Wallabies edged Wales 33-28 by the final whistle.

However you weigh up the fatigue/match fitness equation, today lacks the competitiveness of previous years.

Wales need to go through phases and keep the ball. They haven't had any of the ball and I look at the bench, it is inexperienced.

I don't think Wales can go through the phases because Australia have Hooper and Pocock. At the moment Wales have no ball and no territory, they are not in the game.

This try probably sums up Wales' problems in defence against Australia's power, pace and purpose.

Australia have been totally dominant in every facet of the game. They have won all of the battles, the contact areas. We thought the line-out could be a weakness but that has gone fine, they are toying with Wales.

Wales' defence is all over the place. They could be 40 points down.

    Statss

This the small print to the half and it does not make good reading for the hosts.

They have made twice as many tackles as the Wallabies and missed more than five times as many.

It has been a wretched defensive performance - both in collective organisation and individual execution.
