Gareth Vaughan: There's no point England scoring super tries like that if they're going to keep giving away ridiculous and unnecessary penalties

Here's a chance for South Africa to regain the lead, a fourth penalty given away, but Lambie balloons it miles wide...

  4. try

Converted try - Reece Hodgepublished at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2016

    Scotland 10-7 Australia

Who says that first-phase long-range scores with pre-cooked moves are a thing of the past?

Here is the second of the match. Bernard Foley loops around a couple of blunderbus midfield runners, flips the ball to Dane Haylett-Petty and the Wallabies winger offloads to Reece Hodge to complete the score from fully 40 metres out.

Jet-heeled rugby and that is what they can do. Foley slots the conversion.

David Pocock doing what David Pocock does.

The Australia back row clamps down over the top of Richie Gray at the breakdown and the Scotland clear out stands as much chance of shifting him as a pensioner tackling a jam-jar lid.

Richie Gray is off by the way. Grant Gilchrist replaces him.

That was proper heads-up rugby, attacking a narrow South Africa defence with great runners.

You can't knock that at all, great rugby from England.

  7. converted try

Converted try (May, Farrell)published at 11 mins

    England 7-6 South Africa

Launchbury with a clean take at the line-out, England have some possession at last. Ford with a cheeky chip but that's well covered by Le Roux, I believe. Nice work out back by England, Yarde finds space, Brown finds May and the Gloucester wing goes over in the corner. Farrell with a fine conversion from out wide and England lead. Looking back at that try, it was nice work from centre Elliot that created the space for Yarde.

It couldn't be...I think it is you know.

A thin sliver of a smile plays along the lips of Vern Cotter.

Ten points clear in as many minutes.

  9. Drop-goal (Lambie)published at 7 mins

    England 0-6 South Africa

Strauss goes long and finds centre De Allende - clever work - and some more Springboks pressure leads to a Lambie drop-goal. It's all South Africa at the moment...

Jones races away to put Scotland ahead

    Load up the Proclaimers.

Finn Russell with a chip that is as cute as a litter of labradors and Huw Jones sweeps in off the angle to snatch the bouncing ball ahead of Issy Folau.

The Scotland centre is under the sticks and Greig Laidlaw's conversion is a formality.

  11. Postpublished at 5 mins

    England 0-3 South Africa

Another penalty given away by England - Launchbury offside - and here's the first line-out. Strauss finds De Jager before Lambie is charged down by Farrell, but it's another penalty to South Africa, England offside again...

  12. Replacementspublished at 5 mins

    Scotland 3-0 Australia

A couple of changes forced by early injuries.

Scotland have lost number eight Ryan Wilson, with John Hardie on in his place.

The Aussie are going without second row Adam Coleman who is replaced by Rob Simmons.

  13. 'South Africa start narrow'published at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2016

    Matt Dawson

South Africa are very, very narrow, you could probably half the pitch and still fit their side in it. They're coming in at the fringes, squeezing their defence.

    Scotland 3-0 Australia

A duffed catch attempt off the kick-off by Scotland number eight Ryan Wilson and his side are under immediate pressure.

Dane Haylett-Petty is scragged just short. Australia recycle into midfield, but Sekope Kepu's attempt to flip the ball round the back of his tackler drops forward.

    A let-off.

  16. Penalty (Lambie)published at 3 mins

    England 0-3 South Africa

South Africa win a penalty after Dan Cole comes in from the side at a ruck. It's from just outside the 10m line and Pat Lambie is going to have a stab... over it goes, early lead for the visitors...

Scotland full of adventure and ambition.

Alex Dunbar with a bustling run, Stuart Hogg dancing left and right, Australia backed up to within five metres of their own line.

The Wallabies have strayed offside a few phases before.

Play is pulled back and Greig Laidlaw is going to take on this shot. Should be simple.
