There's a lot of rugby being played in the middle of the field before Billy Burns cuts back inside and finds a gap in the middle of the park.

Burns accelerates forwards but gets caught in two minds and doesn't manage to put boot to ball. It's a great chance and one that could spark Gloucester into attacking life.

So, we're about 10 minutes away from kick-off at the Ricoh Arena.

Ahead of his first start in rugby union following his cross-code switch from Wigan Warriors, Sale winger Josh Charnley will be facing one of the best in the business in opposite number Christian Wade.

Charnley, 25, made his Sharks debut off the bench in the Anglo-Welsh Cup win over Wasps earlier this month and again came on as a replacement in the same competition against Bristol, but this is his first start.

He'll do well to replicate his exploits in league where he scored 165 tries in 176 appearances for Wigan.

A little bit of concern for Saracens' Alex Lozowski as he receives a spot of treatment for what looks like a stinger but he's back in action.

Saracens are looking to press forwards but Gloucester's defensive wall is staying strong and the hosts can't find a way through.

    Saracens 15-17 Gloucester

Gloucester set up the line-out on the halfway line but it's disrupted by Saracens and Alex Lozowski makes a jinking break forwards.

Jackson Wray is next with a bulldozing run before John Afoa disrupts the breakdown and Saracens are sent back to the halfway line.

Saracens are starting with purpose as Richard Barrington and Michael Rhodes charge forwards. Alex Goode then takes matters into his hands and puts a beautiful kick through to 5m out. Off the ensuing lineout Rhodes is penalised and Gloucester clear their lines.

The young player is now being taken off in an ambulance with a warm round of applause ringing around Allianz Park.

We should be back under way shortly. Let's hope he's okay.

Saracens remain inside while Gloucester have come out of the dressing room and are just going through some drills on the field. The young player continues to receive medical treatment at one end of the field.

    HT: Saracens 15-17 Gloucester

We could be in for a bit of a delay to restart proceedings at Allianz Park here. It appears a youngster was injured during the half-time entertainment and is being treated on the pitch.

Both sets of players are still in the dressing room.

Saracens winger on BBC London Sport

Gloucester have brought exactly what we expected of them. We said there was going to be a lot of high balls, a lot of kick tennis and they've brought that.

They've brought a lot more of a breakdown threat than we expected and I think that will be the big change in the second half.

We really need to get more ruthless at those breakdowns so we can look after our own ball and have a good attacking platform.

    Saracens 15-17 Gloucester

The earliest of tries from Ben Morgan, after just 60 seconds, started Gloucester's afternoon and from there the game accelerated at pace.

Two tries apiece alongside Billy Burns and Alex Lozowski trading penalties means that it's delicately poised at the break.

With the time in red Saracens set up a scrum inside Gloucester's half and Richard Barrington is penalised. James Hook lines up the penalty from deep inside his own half, we all know he has a monster boot but this one proves to be out of range.

That's the end of the half!

    Saracens 15-17 Gloucester

Referee Greg Macdonald has a little chat with Gloucester captain Willi Heinz and gives them a formal warning for their discipline at the ruck. He wants to see a clear improvement in terms of players rolling away from the tackle from hereon.

  16. Uncharacteristic Saracens errorspublished at 36 mins

Saracens' front row make a crucial statement as they gain the penalty off the scrum but Alex Lozowski misses touch and the hosts don't gain the full advantage.

James Hook chips forward and again tests Alex Goode who has been put under a lot of pressure in this opening half. Saracens clear to halfway and once again Gloucester look to set up their big ball carriers with Ben Morgan having a stormer so far.

Saracens are looking to turn on the gas with a little under 10 minutes before half-time but they are pinged for not releasing. The usual accuracy that we are used to seeing from the reigning champions isn't quite there yet today.

    Nathan Earle

Gloucester are looking good with ball in hand and Ben Morgan is making a lot of ground.

I think Saracens will get a rile up at half-time and I think you'll see a different animal coming out in the second half.

  20. Penalty (Hook)published at 27 mins

    Saracens 15-17 Gloucester

Gloucester set up a strong drive in Saracens' half and gain a penalty. They take their chance off it anyway and Billy Burns puts in a beautifully weighted cross-field kick. It takes a textbook cover tackle from Alex Goode to stop Henry Purdy and Gloucester have to settle for the three points instead.
