Really consistent pressure from Newcastle but they come away from a concerted raid on the Saracens line with just three extra points from the tee by Joel Hodgson.

It was given for no release in the tackle, and referee Matt Carley has warned Saracens about their conduct after a flurry of early penalties against them.

    Falcons are dominant.

    Saracens 3-3 Newcastle

Three penalties in a row and the Falcons are turning the screw on this Sarries side.

The hosts win a five-metre line-out. It's been a brilliant start from Newcastle. Another catch and drive follows...

This is fairly tasty at the moment. Vincent Koch came rumbling in, no-arms, to poleaxe the Falcons ball-player, conceding a penalty.

Falcons drive it right down the touchline... almost to the tryline but Sarries came in at the side and another penalty is awarded against the champs.

    Falcons held up!

Well, as good as those early moments were for Newcastle, Ally Hogg's obstruction hands Saracens a perfect chance to level it up.

Owen Farrell nails it. Parity swiftly restored.

Newcastle Falcons go in front against the reigning European and Premiership champions thanks to the boot of Joel Hodgson.

Forced the penalty with some solid rucking. Sarries look a bit rattled by a flying start from the visitors.

    Saracens v Newcastle (13:30 GMT)

Not many teams can go out midway through the season and acquire a talent as impressive... or big... as Saracens have in Australia lock Will Skelton.

Those size 18 or 19 feet (depending on the boot) attached to a 6ft 8in frame have rumbled through many a defence in the southern hemisphere Super Rugby competition, and now they're about to be let loose on the Premiership.

He's got an offload on him too. And I wouldn't want to be feeding him on Christmas Day - might need a few turkeys.

Skelton, of course, is just one of a string of big names to watch on a star-studded day of Premiership rugby...

    Saracens v Newcastle (13:30 GMT)

Newcastle Falcons have shuffled their squad about on return to Premiership action, making eight changes to the side that beat Lyon in the European Challenge Cup.

The big news is that wingers Vereniki Goneva and Marcus Watson are back out wide, and Alex Tait in at full-back.

Centre Fred Burdon is the only other change to the back line for Newcastle, who have won their last two Premiership games.

Rob Vickers and Scott Lawson are named in the front row, Canada lock Evan Olmstead also returns and Ally Hogg comes in at number eight.

Winger Chris Ashton returns to the side after a 13-week suspension for biting... although he'll be on the bench to start with.

Sarries have Australia international lock Will Skelton in for his first start, an ominous addition to an already impressively stocked squad, and England hooker Jamie George also wears the colours as one of seven changes.

Here's one to cast the old mince pies (eyes in Cockney rhyming slang) on... Saracens v Newcastle.

Champions Sarries have an imposing defence, conceding just nine tries in 10 games, and scoring 30 in return. It's that kind of all-round quality that sees them top the division.

Newcastle come to Allianz Park in a better place than in previous campaigns, and with five wins they've already matched last year's tally.

However, the Falcons' two-match unbeaten Premiership streak will be severely tested, as will a defence that has conceded 28 tries so far.

Ho ho ho! Season's greetings to you all. It appears Santa has come early for rugby union fans, delivering a triple treat of Premiership fixtures on Christmas Eve.

What better way to celebrate than with a little reworked carol*... all together now.

"On the day before Christmas, BBC Sport gave to me...

"Saracens versus Falcons, Wasps against Bath, Exeter and Leicester... and a live text and radio commentary!"

    Lovely stuff. Let's crack on.
