What is the referee... what is he talking about? He is making it up as he is going along!

A lovely show, shimmy and break from France wing Virimi Vakatawa who chips and gathers before being hauled to the turf.

Tom Wood gets a little impatient at the back of the ruck, giving away a very kickable penalty as he attempts to snaffle some loose ball. It looked legit - he dived off his feet onto the ball but it had already been played by someone else - but ref Angus Gardner thinks otherwise.

France are yapping around the breakdown like rabid poodles. Constant pressure on Ben Youngs and it is slowing down the ball for England.

France with some vintage champagne rugby. Louis Picamoles with a lovely line, Remi Lamarat with a slick off-load.

England are pinned back on their line.

But Ben Youngs spots some unguarded ball, pounces and sets off upfield. Elliot Daly is in support. Hauled down.

And Owen Farrell punches the kick over a scattered France defence and into the away 22m.

All bits and pieces so far, not a lot of rhythm or pattern to the game.

In just 28 minutes Louis Picamoles has made more metres than any other forward on this opening weekend - 63 metres and counting...

There is a lovely battle starting to develop between the two nines. 

Ben Youngs is probably fed up of watching Baptiste Serin orchestrate the game. These two could spend the next few years battling it out.

Another slow, scrambled start from England. But if that has been a hallmark of this team under Eddie Jones, so has been the ability to put that right.

It is France who are creating the right lines, they who are creating the overlaps and England are just lagging behind. 

England's lack of precision lets them down once again.

Tom Wood is off his feet as he gets to a breakdown a little late and is a little desperate in his attempts to protect a prone Owen Farrell.

Penalty France and a chance to clear their lines.

Some canny play from France captain Guilhem Guirado who gets a low, hard drive under an England rolling line-out maul to splinter it into fragments.

England have already conceded as many points as they do in the whole first half against France on average.

There is no question France have matched England so far up front in the scrum, the line-out the maul. 

France in the line-out have struggled somewhat in the past, but not today. Their set-piece has been very good.

A wince-inducing landing for Louis Picamoles as he collides with France team-mate Gael Fickou in the air and comes down flat on his back.

The express back row is back into the fray after a quick application of the magic sponge.

Farrell locks onto his target and lands his kick.

France second row Sebastien Vahaamahina fails to roll away. Another chance for Owen Farrell to close the gap back to three.  

The French have already amassed 172 metres from 39 carries. More than either Ireland or Scotland produced in the first half of the early kick off.

Baptiste Serin, welcome to international rugby. He does it at a canter down the blindside and puts Louis Picamoles away.

Serin is not doing anything flash, but he is doing everything, he has just done everything to perfection and that's what you've got to when you are a young kid playing international rugby.
