Remi Lamerat stretches out for the line....

Has he got downward pressure on the ball?

If so, it is with the nail of his pinkie and nothing else.

The whole Scotland side have battled hard here.

To be in the game at this stage it says a lot for the character of the squad. They have given themselves a chance.

And they've done it in difficult circumstances.

There's so much courage defensively from Scotland, but the French just keep coming at you.

Fraser Brown is down injured, but he's been so brave today.

Ross Ford on in place of Fraser Brown in the Scotland front row.

He has a scrum in the shadow of his own posts to get into.

  5. Big shiftpublished at 16:36 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2017

The leading tackler on show so far? Scotland hooker Fraser Brown with 14, but he looks unlikely to make any more as he has taken a knock and is being led off the pitch.

    I think that's a crazy move.

Points are valuable at a point like this, but the French crowd seem to have reacted positively to the decision to kick for the corner.

    Camille Lopez dummies and wriggles.

He is just a metre out...

    Another penalty for France.

This time Guilhem Girado calls his pack forward for a scrum.

If Scotland can hold out here, it will be a massive morale boost.

    No advantage for France.

Camille Lopez turns down the kick for goal though and goes for the corner.

After the success of the last driven maul, they are going for a repeat...

This game needs something. I don't think the injuries have helped or the error count.

We need a score to energise the crowd and give us a last 16 minutes to remember.

France win a penalty at scrum time. They boot for touch and set up an ominous rolling maul.

Unusually the two leading individual metre makers - normally full-backs or wingers - so far are the two number eights.

Josh Strauss has made 48m for Scotland, Louis Picamoles 68m for France.

Josh Strauss is leaving it all out there.

Scotland's biggest back-row runner, he is taking on all the responsibility for carrying into the jaws of the French pack.

Scotland are up into the French half after Stuart Hogg opts for touch after a penalty on halfway.

Chris Henderson: Definitely a bit more steel about this Scotland side than for many a year.

Rob Parrett: Anyone else hear the stadium brass band playing the Offspring classic 'The Kids Aren't Alright' at Stade Francais ?! Tune.

Mark Chambers: Imagine if that missed conversion turns out to be the difference.

    Another brutal collision in midfield.

Josh Strauss dips his shoulder into contact and leaves Loann Goujon counting the birdies.

Goujon is heading to the sidelines. Damien Chouly is coming on to replace him I think.

This is what you need to do with France.

At 60 minutes you need to still be in the game and you can feel the crowd start to murmur. They start applauding the things you do.

You could beat panels with some of these French hits.

Kevin Goujon and Rabah Slimani put in particularly big tackles.

Scotland are still probing though, looking to out-flank the French rather than out-muscle them.

Josh Strauss is taking a knee as the game comes to halt after a ropey pass from Louis Picamoles.

  20. Replacementpublished at 56 mins

Alex Dunbar has taken a knock on the bonce. He is off for a head injury assessment with Mark Bennett on to fill in.
