The French are trying a few things, but it's not really working for them.

You wonder what sort of attack training they do; they don't seem to have a system in place...

It's like they want to play the game much more off the cuff. There's no real pattern to it and it's so easy for an organised team like Ireland to defend against.

    Johnny Sexton

Nigel Owens' arm pings up in the air to indicate a penalty advantage Ireland.

Johnny Sexton takes the chance of a risk-free dropper at goal. And catches it as sweet as a nut.

The ball tumbles end over end, right through the middle.

Ireland are a converted score in front.

    Ireland 10-6 France

A very canny kick from Conor Murray who drops off the back of retreating scrum, takes the pop pass from Jamie Heaslip and drills a daisy cutter down to just outside the France 22m.

    Dead-eyed stuff.

That penalty makes up for the one just before half-time.

With the rain beginning to sheet down as well, it makes penalty opportunities even more important.

    Ireland 7-6 France

Baptiste Serin needlessly tugs back opposite number Conor Murray, attempting to buy number eight Louis Picamoles a bit of time and space to pick and go.

Nigel Owens spots it and it is a gimme of a penalty for Sexton surely...

  8. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Ireland 7-6 France

Tadhg Furlong bumps into a team-mate as he picks and goes from the base of ruck.

Accidental offside and a scrum France.

Ireland are trying to play a little tighter with the rain coming down.

  9. Postpublished at 43 mins

Johnny Sexton puts up a satellite-bothering up and under.

The crowd ohh and ahh and Scott Spedding fails to gather as the ball returns to earth and he tries to get under it.

A knock forward, advantage played and Ireland take the line-out on the France 22m.

Ireland keep France waiting on the pitch for a couple of minutes before deigning to join them for the second half.

    When you are ready chaps...

That was a good first-half of rugby. France were very positive and that caused issues for Ireland.

But as the half progressed, Ireland didn't panic. I think the momentum is in their favour.

The dominance and penalties Ireland have had, to only have one score, that's the concerning thing for me at the moment.

BBC Sport's Richard Petrie at the Aviva Stadium: A bit of a sense of anti-climax as referee Nigel Owens interrupts a period of pressure from Ireland by blowing the half-time whistle.

After a strong start from the French, the Irish fans are filing out for their half-time refreshments with a feeling that their side should now be further ahead.

All to play for in what promises to be a cracking second half.

    Ireland v France

What a turnaround. Ireland did not set foot inside the French 22 in the opening quarter. In the second quarter, the Irish pack might has well have put down a groundsheet and started hammering in pegs. They set up camp in French territory.

As the stats show, the home side spent almost 21% of the first half in the French 22 - all that pressure came in the final 20 minutes.

However, they only have one try to show for their dominance.

When the front five players get tired for France, they do look vulnerable.

I have to say I'm full of admiration for Ireland at the end of the half there.

They wanted the try and they're full of ambition.

For me, Ireland do deserve to be ahead at half-time, but there isn't much in it.

The Aviva tannoy man announces the scoreline with relish, but a single-point lead is a little underwhelming for Ireland considering their dominance from 20 minutes.
