I think the score is a fair reflection to this point.

Ireland are huffing and puffing, but they aren't making that crucial line-break, although Ringrose has threatened...

But France are on top both with and without the ball at the moment.

    Ireland 0-6 France

Garry Ringrose sets Aviva Stadium buzzing every time he gets his mitts on the ball.

Another half-break. But France are canny around the breakdown. They flood in as the Irish support is slow out of the blocks.

Turnover and Scott Spedding at full-back hoofs high, far and clear.

  4. Penalty - Ireland 0-6 Francepublished at 18 mins

    Camille Lopez

Ireland's sluggish start on the opening day in Murrayfield has repeated itself so far today.

Lopez extends the visitors' lead to six.

Ireland can't give France too much of a head start before they come to the party.

    A let-off for Ireland.

Fickou just knocked on as he attempted to gather.

But France are going to have a shot at goal anyway with a penalty awarded earlier in the piece.

France are in at the corner, but there is a question over whether France gathered cleanly from Camille Lopez's cross-field bomb.

Remi Lamerat is safely in at the corner, but Gael Fickou may have knocked on earlier...

France earn a penalty. And call for another scrum.

They believe they have the upper hand in this forwards' arm wrestle...

    Ireland 0-3 France

Sean O'Brien dips his shoulder and crunches through the tackle.

But there is a French hand in there, flipping it out of his grasp.

    Turnover.

And a massive boot from France full-back Scott Spedding.

It has picked a hole in Ireland's back three and Simon Zebo carries the ball dead as he attempts to keep the ball in play chasing back.

    Scrum five France.

    Ireland v France

The stats show Ireland have controlled the ball in the opening 10 minutes - but they are behind. Despite having just 37% possession, France nicked the lead in their first spell inside the Irish 22.

    FT: Scotland 29-13 Wales

    Jonathan Davies
Former Wales fly-half on BBC One

Wales came here expecting to win and they thought they would strangle Scotland.

But the clear difference was that Scotland took the opportunities that they created. Wales don't create anything or run support lines. If you don't create, and then turn ball over, you're not going to win test matches.

I would've bought Sam Davies on when they were only one score down. What did George North contribute today? What did Liam Williams contribute?

First blood to France and they deserve it for the lovely jigging break from Baptiste Serin alone.

    Ireland 0-0 France

A delightful bit of old-school evasive play from Baptiste Serin who throws an outrageous dummy, darts through a hole and then leaves an Irish defender on the seat of his shorts with a jagging side-step.

Jamie Heaslip gets back to bag the French scrum-half, but Ireland have given away a routine penalty just in front.

    Up steps Camille Lopez.

    FT: Scotland 29-13 Wales

    Vern CotterImage source, Getty Images

    Scotland head coach Vern Cotter:

"We were more assertive and organised in the second half. We applied pressure and found a way to get over the line with a couple of well-scored tries,

"Real guts and desire, the boys threw their bodies into it. We were competitive at the breakdown so all in all I'm happy we came away with the win.

"We will enjoy the evening, it's been a few years since we beat Wales. The boys can have a couple of quiet, cold beers. Then we go down to England."

As if to prove the point, Johnny Sexton's cross-field kick flies clean over its target and into touch.

    Ireland 0-0 France

A brain-dead piece of play from Kevin Gourdon, reaching forward to scrape the ball back France's way from prone on the floor, triggers Nigel Owen's whistle.

Johnny Sexton punts up towards halfway.

The match is yet to find a rhythm. Lots of harem-scarem, helter-skelter stuff without clarity of thought.

    Tony Ward

What I find encouraging for Ireland after these early stages is that Garry Ringrose has touched the ball three times...and looked like breaking through each time. The crowd are reacting to that too.

Louis Picamoles - a great big slab of a man - locks down over the top of Robbie Henshawn and steals the ball.

Terrific work from the France number eight.

The visitors are creeping up towards the Ireland 22m.

I don't think Lopez will be too happy with his half-back partner, that was an absolute nightmare pass.

    Ireland 0-0 France

Johnny Sexton is straight into the fray, running the ball up into some heavy traffic. Sean O'Brien and Jamie Heaslip get a little rumble on.

Sexton hoists the big up and under. Robbie Henshaw is up after it and nearly gets the flick back.

    France clear their lines though.
