Spare a thought for the fans in Clermont-Ferrand and those who travelled to Edinburgh to see their side lose in a big final once again.

I don't think anyone would begrudge them lifting the Top 14 title in a few weeks' time.

Meanwhile Saracens start their sing-song with John Denver's Country Roads. Take Me Home.

That is us done for the afternoon though.

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall speaking on BT Sport:

"I thought we played really really well today. Experience definitely counted for something because when we weren't getting any joy on the scoreboard we kept attacking.

"We could have scored a try earlier than we did. But we showed a lot of sides to ourselves and we are chuffed.

"We really went after the game. While we defended well, we attacked to so it feels good to win it the way we did."

Saracens full-back Alex Goode speaking to BT Sport: It was one of our best performances of the year. We left a few chances out there but our attack was superb today. For my try I was just lucky to get the final pass. I think they were concerned about Ashy outside me.

Saracens captain Brad Barritt talking to BT Sport:

"The way in which the guys carried themselves today, we stayed true to ourselves and our character.

"To stay in the game for 70 minutes and to come away with Chris Ashton's try - it's immensely pleasing.

"We never speak about goals, we all speak about memories. This team is so hungry and determined to keep on coming and it's just about the next wave.

"It's a huge testament to the Saracens culture today."

Saracens wing Chris Ashton speaking to BT Sport: We had a lot of chances in the first half and I thought that we might regret missing that. But we thought that we had the fitness on them and we needed to keep moving them around. it is nice to get that record, but I have had five great years at this club and I have to thank a lot of the guys in that dressing room for helping me to that number."

Clermont full-back Scott Spedding speaking on BT Sport:

"It's massively disappointing. We know the history - that's our third final in this competition and we were deperate to do it for our fans.

"But we came up against a huge Saracens team who have proved their worth in the past few seasons.

"We gave our all out there - we might have left it a bit late in the first half to start playing but we had a good fightback in the second half and we're proud of that effort.

"We are absolutely gutted. We don't know what we're missing but hopefully one day it turns our way."

  9. 'If you play long enough it happens for you'published at 19:20 British Summer Time 13 May 2017

    FT: Clermont 17-28 Saracens

Saracens back row Schalk Burger speaking to BT Sport: "It is right up there. Back home I came close to winning a few trophies with my old club the Stormers. I guess if you play long enough it happens for you. It was a phenomenal atmosphere. These are the days you play rugby for. I thought  we managed the game pretty well. We were camped down in their end and it is easier to play rugby from there."

The win felt different to last year, it's a relief. There was a lot of satisfaction from this.

We want to keep building but we've put down a marker now.
