    Bath 3-17 Wasps

If anyone can arrest the relative slumber* that this second half has fallen into, then it's Wasps playmaker Danny Cipriani.

Give credit to Bath, they've not handed over the positions or ball to Wasps in which to do so in the second period.

However, some front foot ball in this man's hands would lift the tempo again.

*Compared to the high octane first-half.

    Bath 3-17 Wasps

The most beautiful touchline skimming kick from Christian Wade has Bath scrambling back in panic.

Wasps look like they're going for the jugular but then hand over to Bath with a penalty. The clinical execution from Dai Young's side of the first half an hour is lacking at the moment.

    Gloucester 24-15 Harlequins

Two tries in three minutes and Gloucester are on FIRE!

Strong work from the pack opens things up for Charlie Sharples to dash over for his second try of the game.

Billy Burns with the extras again and Gloucester lead by nine points after 53 minutes.

  4. Penalty (Gopperth)published at 48 mins

    Bath 3-17 Wasps

Bath can't buy a point at the moment. Meanwhile, Wasps get a penalty after Ashley Johnson was shepherded off the ball.

Rather than boot to touch, Jimmy Gopperth smacks one off the tee to exceed 200 points in the Premiership. No mistake.

  5. try

Try (Halaifonua, con Burns)published at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2017

    Gloucester 17-15 Harlequins

Things get a little scrappy and Gloucester have the try to level things up at Kingsholm.

Mat Luamanu lost the ball for Harlequins and the ball is hack back up field and Gloucester win the chase to claim possession close to the try line.

David Halaifonua  is there to finish it.

Billy Burns with a great conversion to edge the Cherry and Whites back ahead.

    Bath 3-14 Wasps

Bath went for a huge shift to the right with Semesa Rokoduguni, it came to nothing in the end, but did win the hosts a scrum.

JP Doyle is having a bit of chat with the two packs here, where it's been a grind.

    Bath 3-14 Wasps

Kurtley Beale rattled one into touch on the full and Bath get the ball back in a bright position.

Good break by Anthony Watson was shut down and from the subsequent phase, Wasps turn over.

It's all flared up on the back of it, but simmered down again quickly.

    Bath 3-14 Wasps

Wasps won the line-out too. Really isn't going Bath's way but they do turn the ball over again.

    Scrappy start to the half.

    Bath 3-14 Wasps

Wonder what Todd Blackadder has been saying in the Bath sheds at half-time?

Anyway, Wasps have us back underway and Bath are already on the back foot as Chris Cook's kick is charged down...

    Gloucester 10-15 Harlequins

The second half has not started so great for Harlequins as Charlie Mulchrone is helped off the field after suffering a left leg injury.

The scrum-half is replaced by Luc Jones.

Bristol win promotion from ChampionshipImage source, Rex Features

Right, now for a change of pace as we look to a bit of off-field news.

There was a hugely significant Premiership development on Friday, as the RFU announced that there will be automatic promotion, external to the top-flight from 2018 from the Championship.

What does that mean... well, a few things actually.

The Championship promotion play-offs have been binned. Some (and by some, I mean many) will say that is a good thing. Just ask Bristol, they were promoted via the play-offs at the end of last season, but they actually topped the table in five of the seven seasons in the second tier.

Oh, and it must be said that promotion is dependent on clubs meeting criteria to play in the Premiership.

There is also the added good news of a new multi-million pound deal struck between the RFU and Premiership Rugby to finance the second, and England's only other professional rugby union competition.

    Bath 3-14 Wasps

Wasps in control at the break, having limited Bath's opportunities and taken a couple of their own.

Two forwards laid the platform for the two scores, with Alex Rieder breaking for the first and big Tommy Taylor (below) cracking the line for the second.

Of course, it was the X-factor pair of Christian Wade and Kurtley Beale who got the tries.

Tom Homer made something of Bath's best chance when he took a shot at goal from the tee after a Wasps knock-on.

However, they'll need much more field position if they're to have any chance of wresting this game from Wasps.

    Bath 3-14 Wasps

After a couple of reset scrums, Bath eventually opt for a kick at goal having failed to go in at the corner.

Tom Homer clips it though. On the board.

    Bath 0-14 Wasps

Jimmy Gopperth's spill under no pressure has given Bath a platform here, on the cusp of Wasps' 22...

Scrum to come with the clock in the red...

Well, an early Gloucester try had the home fans in fine voice, but Harlequins battled back with moments of magic.

The sight of Tim Visser taking flight above is the split second that Quins got a foothold back into this match. And from there, they have simply built a lead with little fuss.

    Bath 0-14 Wasps

Wasps are fallible after all. Danny Cipriani tried to switch the play but Ashley Johnson on his 100th appearance failed to draw the ball in cleanly.

Blow for Dai Young, who sees James Gaskell limp off injured and Will Rowlands comes on. Looks a painful knee injury.

Bath have another set-piece midway inside their own half, which is where I imagine their heat map would be largely situated in this first 40.

  18. Penalty (Swiel)published at 15:46 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2017

    Gloucester 10-15 Harlequins

Gloucester just go and gift Harlequins three points there, conceding a penalty at the scrum inside their own 22!

Tim Swiel is on the mark with less than 30 second remaining of the first half.

    Bath 0-14 Wasps

Jimmy Gopperth is down receiving a bit of treatment. His knee is heavily strapped already. Concern for Wasps.

Bath have beefed up their pack this afternoon but at the moment, field position is killing them. If you don't get the ball in the right areas of the pitch then it is so difficult to clear your lines.

In turn, Anthony Watson and Semesa Rokoduguni have had little space to blast away, largely down to the suffocating Wasps defence.

    Bath 0-14 Wasps

Jimmy Gopperth thinks he's streaking over for a third Wasps try after turning Bath over in midfield, but the pass to the Kiwi was ruled forward after a Television Match Official review.

Another close shave for Bath. Going forward Wasps do look pretty irresistible. Not quite executing there though.
