Six Nations 2017 is a wrap then.

England champions, Scotland most improved, Wales with the most thrilling victory and Ireland with the happiest sign-off.

“We just wanted to make sure all the bits and pieces we needed to get right to get a skinny margin over a super team, we ticked those boxes.

“We wanted to make it as tough as possible and they still nearly got over the top of us.

“The bit of pride we can take is the three teams that sit above us in the world we have beaten in the last six months.”

England's James Haskell on BBC Radio 5 live: “You always have to appreciate international rugby is tough and there are no easy games, we knew Ireland would bring that physicality.

“It wasn’t about the physical battle, it was about indiscipline, you can’t build momentum like that.

“There was good talk out there, good messages, but it’s one thing talking about it and another thing acting on it. They played smarter rugby than us.”

England head coach Eddie Jones speaking to ITV:

"It wasn't our day today. Ireland played very well in the conditions.

"We struggled in the line-out and at the breakdown - two key areas.

"Their defence was good and we couldn't get any momentum in our attack. They were off the line so quickly.

"It would have been great to be Grand Slam champions and world record holders but it wasn't our day today. They were better than us.

"Technical issues to look at but our attitudes were good. It was still only 13-9 at the end of the game and we didn't play well."

England head coach Eddie Jones says he will take responsibility for his side losing today.

“Everything was wrong with preparation because we played like that," Jones told BBC Radio 5 live.

"I take full responsibility, I didn’t prepare the team well and we will respond in the future.

"It was a tight old game, one or two things go your way and the game flips, they didn’t go our way today we didn’t work hard enough to get those opportunities and that's what happens.

"I thought we could always still win the game up to the 79th minute when Mike Brown knocked it on.

"We knew it was going to be a tough physical game, we just weren’t good enough today."

Andy Morgan:  Surprised at England. Thought they'd be up for a grand slam/world record match. Lacked intensity, though well played Ireland.

Cian:  Well played Ireland, brought back a good win for St Patricks Day Weekend. Luck of the Irish.

Mark Davies:  If Wales had held on against England and we should have and beaten France, which we did *really*, we would be 6N champs Yay!

"It wasn't the day for style but I thought we played really well in the first 20 minutes and deserved the lead we had.

"Garry Ringrose was a revelation. He just keeps taking steps forward. That 20 minutes gave us enough confidence and from then on it was about staying in the match.

"Incredibly physical but a little bit static. It showed courage is a massive part of any team performance.

"All credit to England. They have been incredible for the last 18 months. They deserve to be the title holders and there is probably more to come from this England team.

Hugh Rodger:  Ridiculous overreaction to say England "not that good" after losing their hardest fixture by 4. Ireland ended NZ's run too.

Elliot Hunter:  Happy for the Irish but a little sad to see Scotland finish 4th in a championship we played so well in. A little deflating.

Mark Davies:  England are the best, but the gap isn't as wide as some would think. Great game Ireland. That is why the 6N is so compelling.

"A big lesson to learn today. 

"We set out to win the tournament and we've done that but disappointed not to win the final game.

"It shows we're not quite there yet as a team but credit to Ireland.

"We seemed to back up every error with another error. We are not the finished article. This will keep us grounded."

"They are a quality team. We knew that.

"We knew it would take a monumental effort to stop a quality outfit.

"They're going to lift the trophy now and they are deserved champions but we are very happy with that win.

"There were aspects of the campaign that we let slip by but that was a lot more like us.

"Big occasions, big men rise to it and we certainly had a lot of those."

It was a sensational performance by Ireland. They had England at arm's length.

The best way to defend is keep hold of the ball, which Ireland did. Another heroic performance from Johnny Sexton.

It was too much for England, who were second best by a distance.

It's a tough position for the English players to be in away from home, they are still the champions, they have lost one game in two years and unfortunately it's come in this situation.

In a few weeks they can go and assess what they have done and what they have achieved.

They've had mix performances this season. Got out of jail in Cardiff, disjointed against Italy and this is a test that probably summed up their season - they're still champions.

Grim faces all around, the odd wry smile at most.

Not least because they know that Eddie Jones will be watching for anyone who will settle for less than total global domination.

Loosen the ties lads, have a smile, it was still a pretty commanding campaign.

England will probably right now think they had chances to win it and should have won it, you don't have time to get that perspective of the game and how great the opposition were.

It's a very tricky game to win away from home for the Grand Slam. 

England, and I include myself, don't quite have it in us to understand the enormity of the occasion from how the other side see it.

I'm applauding Ireland, that was one of the finest Ireland displays I've seen in a long time, the opposition are world class and Ireland have stepped up yet again, a fantastic display.

I know how these England players feel, they will be low, dejected, but they should be extremely proud of how they have transformed English rugby.

But that was a comprehensive win for Ireland, more than four points.

Ireland did the damage in the first half and refused to let England pay back the debt.

It was a match to pulverise muscle to mince - but that goes without saying at this level.

What might concern Eddie Jones was Ireland's game was tight and taught as a squaddie's bedsheet. England's was pockmarked with errors and inaccuracies.

And, if you want to be the best side in the world, that doesn't cut it.
