Rory Best managed to get the ball away to Jared Payne, but he took slightly too long and I think if he had got the ball away first time would have put Keith Earls in for a try.

    A gimme. First blood Ireland.

You don't see that in the Dog and Duck XV.

Ireland hooker Rory Best flicks an outrageous pass out of the backdoor to spring Jared Payne.

He offloads to Keith Earls and the wing is pulled down a yard short.

He spills forward but we are going back for the penalty bang in front.

Full court press from Ireland here. It doesn't matter who has got the ball or where it is, Ireland are gambling in defence.

Of course, Andy Farrell loves that rugby league, hard, in your face defence.

It may well be the kind of day to defend rather than attack.

    Ireland 0-0 England

The Aviva Stadium crowd let out their first full-blooded roar as a catch-and-drive rolling maul heads towards the England 22m.

Courtney Lawes crabs over the top to get a tentacle on the ball and halt the momentum.

    Out it comes.

A Garryowen from Johnny Sexton. James Haskell claims as the ball breaks loose.

But now he has lost it. Ireland knocking on the door, 20 metres out.

    Ireland 0-0 England

James Haskell takes the chance to leave one on Johnny Sexton, dipping a shoulder into the Ireland fly-half after he had poked a kick forward for the hosts.

    Sexton is A-Ok though.

Simon Zebo almost gets free down the blindside, but Ben Youngs manages to scrag his man.

    Ireland 0-0 England

A twitchy start from both teams.

The ball bullets forward off Mike Brown's shoulder as the England full-back comes steaming into the line flat and hard.

Owen Farrell's pass was a little behind him to be fair.

    Ireland 0-0 England

Mike Brown comes through his first aerial test, claiming a towering high ball.

    And his second.

    Jared Payne flunks though.

The Ireland full-back spills a straightforward one on the edge of his own 22m.

Scrum-down England and a chance to attack.

  9. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Ireland 0-0 England

Ben Youngs over-cooks his box-kick reply from halfway.

It dribbles over the tryline and Keith Earls chases back to dot down under no pressure to bring us back for the drop-out on the 22m.

  10. Kick-offpublished at 1 min

    Ireland 0-0 England

George Ford drops out long and Ireland wing Keith Earls claims well, dodging a chasing tackler like a matador in the bull ring.

A good clearance kick from Kieran Marmion as well.

Right, France have beaten Wales 20-18 in the 100th minute at the Stade de France.

They are up to second in the Six Nations table.

And we are finally ready to get the show on the road in Dublin.

Dylan Hartley calls his men together for a final few words.

    England to get us going.

  12. Kick-off delayed for Parisian dramapublished at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Ireland v England (17:00 GMT)

Frenchman Jerome Garces is on the whistle this evening.

By the way, a mind-boggling 20 minutes of added-on time is just coming to a dramatic conclusion over in Paris.

The extraordinary over-run of that match means that kick-off has been delayed in Dublin.

The two teams are just running through passing drills to keep warm.

    Strange times.

As ever in Dublin, the teams are out on the pitch for a fair old while before we get into the anthems.

England, sensibly zipped into trackie tops, finally get a chance to exercise the vocal cords.

God Save The Queen done, now time for Ireland's two tunes...

    Hang on a jiffy.

There is apparently a late change in the Ireland line-up.

Number eight Jamie Heaslip has picked up an injury during the warm-up and has stayed back in the dressing room.

Peter O'Mahony comes off the bench, filling in at blindside, with CJ Stander shifting to number eight.

    Chris Jones
BBC Radio 5 live rugby reporter in Dublin

I've been here in Dublin a few days and there's a sense of trepidation amongst Ireland supporters.

Will this be more 2003 [when England's future World Cup winners  romped to a 42-6 win in Dublin ] than 2001 [when Ireland halted England's Slam bid  with a 20-14 victory ]?

Is he about to emulate Will Carling and lead England to back-to-back Grand Slams?

Carling, by the way, has picked his composite 1992/2017 side.
