A poachers performance from the Lions this half. Perhaps not at their fluid best, but a great read in defence from Greg Laidlaw, and a very good kick chase from Leigh Halfpenny, have led to Tommy Seymour and George North crossing the whitewash for the Lions.

So much has been spoken about execution and taking try-scoring opportunities on this tour, and it has at times been the Lions Achilles heel. The All Blacks showed on Saturday that perhaps it's not always about clear cut chances, ie obvious overlaps, but making your own chances. The Lions have done that this morning through their defence, twice transitioning from defence to attack very quickly and reacting better than any of the black and yellow shirts on the field.

Rory Best has looked very good at the breakdown, as has Justin Tipuric. Both second rows - Iain Henderson and Courtney Lawes - have been physical, which will be pleasing to Gatland. Test places are available and up for grabs this Saturday.

Half time and the Lions in control on the scoreboard. Unlike on the weekend, the bounces have gone their way with two tries against the run of play.

The Hurricanes have the class out wide to cut the Lions open, but the tourists have fronted up in the tight and seem far more comfortable with a Frenchman in charge.

Great defence from the Lions as they shove the Hurricanes rolling maul back away from their line.

The hosts kept trying to get locked and loaded, but they were never allowed a foothold.

    A superb bit of defence.

    That's the half.

Julian Savea revs up and gets motoring, before Courtney Lawes applies the clamp.

The Lions are stretched. Iain Henderson seems to secure the turnover.

But there is a penalty in the backfield.

The Hurricanes kick to the corner with the hooter already gone.

Line-out five from the Lions line...

    Nothing complicated about this one.

Dan Biggar puts up a sky-scraper of an up-and-under on Nehe Milner Skudder. Leigh Halfpenny is not the biggest, but neither is the Hurricanes wing.

The ball spills loose as the pair contest and straight into the paws of Iain Henderson.

George North appears at pace on the second row's shoulder and has a clear route under the posts.

Another two from Biggar and the Lions crank the scoreline still wider.

Courtney Lawes has been a free-range forward so far, roaming far and wide taking on plenty of the ball carrying duty.

The Lions almost get round the outside as Leigh Halfpenny flicks a ball onto Jack Nowell, but Julian Savea just about makes up the ground.

Romain Poite is in charge of the third Test against the All Blacks.

If the series goes to a decider, Warren Gatland would take a repeat of his officiating in Eden Park.

The Hurricanes have given away seven penalties to the Lions one.

George North has shifted around the field tonight in more ways than one. Picked on the left wing, he positioned himself on the right, marking fellow giant Julian Savea. But he’s now been forced into emergency centre duty following Robbie Henshaw’s departure.

He’s played there before for Wales, and can expect to make a few more tackles defending that channel. Prior to that, he’d popped up a few times off his wing, making some hard yards with that familiar pumping leg drive.

The Hurricanes' indiscipline is really costing them. Prop Ben May cynically blocks off George North as the Wales makeshift centre attempts to get up in defence.

An braindead penalty to give away and Dan Biggar accepts gratefully...

The Hurricanes magical backline don't get a look in.

Instead it is ball-up-the-jumper time for the forwards.

Repeated rumbles end with Glasgow-bound Callum Gibbins piledriving over from a few metres.

    Jordie Barrett adds another two.

    A more reflective scoreline.

Maybe this is a tactic we will see more of this weekend.

After Nagani Laumape comes cantering through the guts of the Lions defence after Otere Black's offload, they regather and offer a full screen for Greig Laidlaw at the back of the breakdown.

The Scotland scrum-half is getting more protection than Conor Murray was afforded on Saturday.

It's been a busy, physical and fractious start to the game. A response has been called for and a reaction has been seen from the Lions. There has been a lot of niggle in the game so far, but that is to be expected in what is a midweek game boasting some world class talent for both teams.

Lock Iain Henderson has looked very good with ball in hand and CJ Stander has looked lively. The Hurricanes are giving the Lions cheap penalties (something the All Blacks in the first Test did not do. Seven so far in total which is astonishing!)
