Aggressive linespeed!! Defence into attack in 10 seconds and the Lions get the first try.

Greig Laidlaw found himself on the wing out of position but read the situation perfectly and then linked with his fellow Scot in Tommy Seymour for the winger to score his second try on tour.

Greig Laidlaw has not got the gas, but his Scotland team-mate Tommy Seymour, whose big hit on Otere Black, helped disrupt the Canes' attack is right on his shoulder to take the pop and scamper in.

Another two from Biggar and the Hurricane's sails have been holed just as they were getting up a head of steam.

A better scrum from the Lions as the Canes crumple and Brad Shields is forced to pick and go behind a fast-retreating set-piece.

Ngani Laumape shows what he is all about with a head-down charge and piston-like hand-off.

The Hurricanes steam into the breakdown, beating the Lions forwards through sheer weight of numbers and securing the scrum.

    A canny bit of defence.

Zaid Alsaji: French ref @reffinromain showing just why NH teams love em. Lost control early in game clearly still bitter about 2011 WC

Kyle: Good positive start from the Lions great to see them on the front foot. Excellent start.

John McEnerney: Iain H & CJ to make the Test bench, 6-2 split plenty of firepower to bring on this Saturday

Both second rows are showing up well in the opening few minutes for the Lions.

Iain Henderson wades into the Hurricanes defence and makes yards.

The Hurricanes have lacked discipline so far. Jordie Barrett gives away another penalty as he drapes himself around Jack Nowell's neck like a feather boa.

    Tap and go!

The Hurricanes are caught offside. Vaea Fifita is the guilty man.

Dan Biggar thinks about the quick tap and go. Cooler heads prevail.

He is going to take on a simple shot at goal...

Jack Nowell fields Nehe Milner-Skudder's chip ahead and bounces the chasing Kiwi wing with a big shoulder.

    Nice work.

Romain Poite is having a little bit of trouble with the scrum. The two front rows are trying to get a flier on their opposite numbers.

Ben May is pinged for boring in on Dan Cole. A little dust-up with James Haskell and CJ Stander getting to grips with Brad Shields before Dan Biggar kicks to the Hurricanes 22m line.

First chance for the Lions. Can they take it?

Full-back Jack Nowell is scragged behind the advantage line as the Hurricanes defence comes steaming up and Nehe Milner-Skudder picks up his line perfectly.

Nowell - not a specialist full-back - will want to get his mitts on the ball, but needs to plan his incursions carefully.

There is a lot of talk in defence from the Hurricanes.

Their calls are coming over loud and clear on the atmosphere mics.

The home side are making yards when they get the ball in hand.

Nehe Milner-Skudder and Mark Abbott dent the Lions defence before a knock-on turns possession back to the tourists.

The hemispherical differences between the referees has been a theme of this tour.

There is no doubt the All Blacks played last Saturday's official - South African Jaco Peyper - much better than the Lions, with New Zealand conceding just six penalties.

Therefore Warren Gatland and the Lions will be delighted to have a Frenchman in Romain Poite in charge this evening, which should serve as ideal preparation for his compatriot Jerome Garces who is in the middle this coming Saturday.

The helicopter has headed skywards and the Lions have headed pitchwards.

CJ Stander looking stern, Courtney Lawes, coiled like a cobra, tests the atmosphere with the tip of his tongue.

Out come the Canes to a rapturous reception.

    We are good to go.

For most of these Lions, tonight will be the last time they pull on the famous jersey this tour, perhaps ever.

For some, it serves as a final audition for the remainder of the test series. George North – one of the surprise omissions last Saturday – is one of those.

During the first test between New Zealand and Wales last summer, he punched holes almost at will. Turn in a performance of similar quality tonight, and he could be right back in the mix.
