Good work on the floor from Alun Wyn Jones as he scraps hard and slows up All Black ball.

Elliot Daly passes his first Test under the high ball, calls the mark and wallops a kick back downfield.

Codie Taylor wobbles on his line-out dart. Not straight. Scrum Lions. Conor Murray darts. Kieran Read fails to release Elliot Daly on the floor. Make that a penalty.

Johnny Sexton's kick-off is deep into the New Zealand 22m. It is safely gathered by the hosts and Aaron Smith returns fire from scrum-half.

Liam Williams comes to claim and conclusively doesn't.

Aerial ping-pong ends in a draw with a line-out on halfway.

It would have taken a brave man to lock eyes with opposite number Sonny Bill.

Kick-off to come from Johnny Sexton.

    Anthem time.

God Defend New Zealand is belted out by a suited, and increasingly soggy, soprano (Mike's a better judge of rugby players than types of singer - ed).

A few dewy eyes among the All Black line-up. The Lions are on the brink, but the hosts are out for the kill.

Replacement TJ Perenara to lead the haka.

Here comes Sam Warburton, striding down the Westpac Stadium corridor, grasping the cuddly mascot in a ham-sized fist and marching out into the wind and rain.

The All Blacks are still in the shed. Kieran Read puts his hand in the middle of the huddle. His players follow suit and now they are on their way...

This is not the first time that that the Lions have gone into a Test against the All Blacks with a double playmaker set-up at 10 and 12.

Back in 2005, Sir Clive Woodward picked Wales' Stephen Jones at fly-half and Jonny Wilkinson at inside centre for the first Test.

They lost 21-3 and the experiment was ditched.

"There wasn't a strong foundation on which to build that relationship," Wilkinson told the Telegraph earlier this week.

"When I was playing with Stephen Jones, we were almost trying to build a foundation and decorate our bedroom at the same time."

However, Wilkinson does not necessarily think that Johnny Sexton and Owen Farrell will suffer in the same way, pointing out that he prospered with Mike Catt and Matt Giteau pulling strings at inside centre for England and Toulon respectively.

Surprisingly left out of the first Test, Itoje has been brought in to beef up the Lions pack.

The 22-year-old was the only Lions forward dominating the All Blacks physically after his arrival as a second-half replacement last Saturday, and is now tasked with doing that from the start.

Already a champion player for club and country, this could be the night Itoje announces himself on the world stage.

    Andy FarrellImage source, Getty Images

On the eve of today's match, it was Lions defence coach Andy Farrell who was shoved in front of the media to bang the drum from tourists.

And the former league Lion gave it some welly.

“It is a do-or-die situation. We know that and it is about manning up and putting everything on the line," he said.

"You can tip people over the edge and not let them be the rugby player they are so you have to be cute about it. You will not win Test matches by being raging mad. You don’t want your passion to cloud your judgment. The tone has to be right.”

But, by the sound of it, it will be pre-match pep-talk to strip paint from the walls in the Lions hutch.
