    Rieko Ioane, 20, has made only two replacement appearances for the All Blacks, but his electrifying performance in the Blues win over the tourists - where he had Jack Nowell on toast with a little parsley garnish - have earned him a starting spot in the biggest Test of all.

    The youngster is keeping out some big names with big frames - the likes of Julian Savea and Waisake Naholo.

    Time to shine.

    Elliot Daly only made his first England start back in November.

    But the 24-year-old was an ever-present in Eddie Jones' Six Nations XVs this year, his crackling pace and deft handling, combining with a cannon of a left peg, to make the wing spot his own.

    His ability to ping over penalties from inside his own half could be the Lions trump card in the final 20 minutes.

    Stepping into Dane Coles' boots at hooker is 26-year-old Codie Taylor.

    Twelve of his 16 Test appearances have come as a replacement, and he admits that this is the biggest match of his life.

    "It's going to be a hell of a Test match, so I've got to go out there and nail my role," he said.

    He - along with front-row colleagues Owen Franks and Joe Moody and second Sam Whitelock - were part of the Crusaders pack sent backwards by the Lions earlier on in the tour.

    And we Brits thought we had it bad losing Billy Vunipola and Stuart Hogg.

    This was the headline on Kiwi website Stuff in May. And columnist Marc Hinton's worst fears, external have come to pass.

    Dane Coles - the All Blacks all-singing all-dancing hooker - has been ruled out for the whole series after concussion problems that have dogged him for the last six weeks.

    "He is clear of most of his symptoms and he is back training," said All Blacks coach Steve Hansen.

    "But because he is not fit enough to play test rugby, or Super Rugby, we have put him back into what we call a pre-season training block.

    "He will stay with us for the next three weeks then go back to his franchise and be back to play when he's rugby ready."

    Peter O'Mahony was one of the coffin-bearers at the funeral of his former Munster team-mate, coach and friend Anthony Foley in October.

    He has said that he hoped Foley would be proud of what he was achieved so far on this tour.

    Donncha O'Callaghan - who spent much of his career at Munster alongside O'Mahony - relayed this anecdote about O'Mahony's own fierce pride earlier this week.

    "The day after Anthony was buried, Munster played Glasgow in the Champions Cup. The referee called the two captains together and pleaded for calm," O'Callaghan wrote in the Times., external

    "'They’re over-emotional,' Glasgow’s Jonny Gray suggested.

    "O’Mahony pushed him in the chest.

    "'Don’t tell us what emotions we should have,' he said.

    "That was the day we all saw our little brother grow up."

    This is the view from one of the corner flags as Lions attack coach Rob Howley starts to prepare the warm-up.

    The tannoy announcer just urged Kiwis to drown out the Lions' fans; it was immediately met by a roar of "LIONS! LIONS!" from the travelling hordes.

    Welshman Liam Williams and England's Elliot Daly are surprise inclusions in the back three, beating Leigh Halfpenny and George North to full-back and wing spots respectively.

    Wales flanker Sam Warburton, made tour captain by head coach Warren Gatland, will be on the bench at Eden Park.

    Instead Munster flanker Peter O'Mahony, who was not a regular pick for Ireland in this year's Six Nations after losing his place following a long-term knee injury, skippers the side.
