There's no warning from the referee and that's a yellow card for French lock Lenaig Corson.

The double penalty did it and she's off for 10 minutes.

    Ireland have to capitalise.

We've got our first scrum of the second half, and this could be a marker of what's to come.

There's a counter-surge from France but Ireland number eight Paula Fitzpatrick picks up off the back and Ireland are running close here.

There's a penalty advantage coming as the women in green edge towards the line.

A surge from Ciara Griffin who is now inches from the whitewash, but the referee comes back.

    HT: France 21-0 Ireland

BBC Sport NI's Orla Bannon at the UCD Bowl:

Twenty five minutes in and we get the first rendition of 'Fields of Athenry'.

Forty minutes in and it's stunned silence around the ground as harsh reality begins to sink in.

There's only one team in this and the sun is setting on Ireland's World Cup dream.

  6. Half-timepublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 17 August 2017

    France 21-0 Ireland

A bit of a disastrous half for Ireland. But France have been in sublime form.

They've had runners in every area of the pitch, linked up well and denied Ireland any possession.

An almost flawless first-half performance means they're on the way to the semi-finals... at the moment.

Time still for France to make yet another break as lock Lenaig Corson runs through the first tackle. The second-rower looked more like a winger there.

Ireland fly-half Nora Stapleton comes to her side's rescue as she gets back to prevent the try.

One minute to play here in Dublin.

Three minutes until the break but that's plenty of time for France winger Chloe Pelle to burst through the Irish defence.

Hearts in mouths time for Ireland but she eventually throws the ball forward.

Ireland have missed the first tackle on so many occasions so far this evening.

    France 21-0 Ireland

    Interesting scenes at the line-out.

France are standing off the Irish catcher, meaning the ball cannot be transferred back.

It makes for a very odd scene as a cluster of Irish forwards walk gingerly towards the France line, shielding the ball and waiting for them to engage.

Another area where France are in complete control.

In typical French fashion, the women in blue have been flinging the ball around the field all half.

It's their flair which has seen them storm into a 21-point lead with just under 10 minutes before the break.

Ireland need to get some points on the board, sharpish.

That was outstanding. What a try from France!

Elodie Poublan started off the move with a sublime offload to winger Chloe Pelle before Caroline Ladagnous eventually crossed for another five points.

Montserrat Amadee, who's made quite an impression this evening, adds another two points and France are running away with this.

    France 14-0 Ireland

A good tactical kick from Nora Stapleton as Ireland look to steal the French line-out deep inside the French half.

France go long and collect safely but the ball is eventually stolen by lock Sophie Spence - Ireland are competing well now.

But once again they can't make the French pay as the referee blows his whistle for holding on.

    France 14-0 Ireland

Ireland have found a way back into this game but the French defence is holding strong and they haven't been able to make a decisive break.

France with the put-in at the scrum - a good feed and the ball is sent wide to full-back Montserrat Amedee who just ghosts past a couple of Irish defenders. She's started well.

Nicole Cronin gets across to tackle though and France are penalised for offside.

Ireland are showing spirit here though.

A good carry from full-back Hannah Tyrrell but France are doing all they can to slow down the ball at the breakdown and Ireland's progress is slow.

The ball goes wide to Jenny Murphy as they try to work the short side but they can't get over that gain line. And the ball is spilled forward.

    France 14-0 Ireland

Ireland have their first real period of possession as fly-half Nora Stapleton hoists the ball into touch from the penalty.

The line-out is collected safely by Marie-Louise Reilly but the French stand off the catcher and Ireland transfer the ball back illegally. I think.

The referee didn't like it anyway. And France have the ball back.

  16. Ireland still missing tacklespublished at 20:05 British Summer Time 17 August 2017

    France 14-0 Ireland

BBC Sport NI's Orla Bannon at the UCD Bowl:

"Ireland missed 47 tackles in their unconvincing wins over Australia and Japan.

"It was an area they knew they had to tighten up to be competitive against France, but already they must be close to double figures here."

    France 14-0 Ireland

Just a reminder - this is a winner takes all match. Ireland have to win to make the semi-finals.

But it's France who have taken this game by the scruff of the neck.

Ireland need to get on par, and quickly.

    France 14-0 Ireland

We may be in Ireland, but it's the French national anthem which rings around the stadium.

The French are in fine form both on and off the field at the moment.

Once again the Irish defence are stretched as the French backs flood into the Irish 22.

But that's good work from Ciara Griffin who gets her hands over the ball and France are penalised for not releasing.

Fourteen minutes gone and it's a second French try.

It all started at the scrum but its Caroline Ladagnous who finishes off the move. All too easy.

And just to rub salt in the Irish wounds, Montserrat Amedee slots a tricky conversion straight through the uprights.

Things just aren't going well for Ireland.

    France 7-0 Ireland

A more solid scrum from Ireland as they defend for their lives on the five-metre line.

France are told to use it as progress stops and now it's a chance for the backs.
