Former Lions and England scrum-half on BBC Radio 5 live

Slick and very simple. Billy Vunipola just made enough yards to give England momentum and then it was a really nice sweep round the backlline, and all of a sudden Mike Brown has a run-in.

    Lift off!!

Perfection along the line by England. It starts with Billy Vunipola and ends with a perfect pass from Jonny May into the hands of Mike Brown. May commits the last man and that means Brown can charge over the line for the game's first score.

Just like last week, England score early.

    Farrell adds the extras.

    South Africa 0-0 England

    Victor Matfield
Former South Africa captain on BBC Radio 5 live

South Africa are desperately trying to get the ball wide and stretch this England defence, to test out their fitness at altitude again, but England have done pretty well so far.

    South Africa 0-0 England

England are putting South Africa's scrum half Faf de Klerk, whose blonde locks are flowing behind him as he scampers around, under pressure at the breakdown. Something they didn't do enough of last week.

The South African's box kick goes out of play.

    South Africa 0-0 England

    Victor Matfield
Former South Africa captain on BBC Radio 5 live

I must say that's a great mental win for England, they got the shove going as soon as the ball came in. It was a good opportunity for South Africa to score, but it's gone to waste.

    South Africa 0-0 England

Roars from the England forwards. A cry of "come onnnnnnn," from one man in white. That's first blood to England in the scrummaging stakes. England win the penalty at the set piece. Billy Vunipola pumps the air in delight.

Farrell clears his side's lines with the boot.

    South Africa 0-0 England

South Africa get the put in at the scrum following that breakaway and try to switch the ball around among the backs.

They kick in behind but Mike Brown sweeps up at the back and then England try to spring something of their own.

Peeeep. The England break is stopped in its tracks - that's forward from Owen Farrell. Scrum to South Africa inside the England 22.

    South Africa 0-0 England

    Victor Matfield

Great ankle tap from Owen Farrell there to get Damian de Allende, that was a really important tackle.

    Interception!

South Africa race away now. Damian de Allende threatens to run the length of the field but is hauled down just inside the England half.

    Frantic start.

    South Africa 0-0 England

    Matt Dawson
Former Lions and England scrum-half on BBC Radio 5 live

Already you can see England aren't going to play this phase after phase, it looks like they're going to be kicking it plenty, with George Ford pulling the strings.

  12. Postpublished at 4 mins

Two mistakes. One from South Africa, another from England. Both knock-ons. The South African one came first and now England have the set piece 15m from the try line.

England are putting pressure on South Africa's two young wingers with kicks early on.

  13. 'Springboks over-eager'published at 16:11 British Summer Time 16 June 2018

    South Africa 0-0 England

    Victor Matfield
Former South Africa captain on BBC Radio 5 live

South Africa were a little bit over-eager there - and now England have the first opportunity to attack.

  14. Postpublished at 2 mins

    South Africa 0-0 England

Faf de Klerk, who was brilliant at his scurrying best last week, is the first man to get on the wrong side of the referee. He gives away a penalty.

England kick to touch and have the chance to attack. They started well last week too remember...

What a fantastic day for the Beast - he's a fantastic team man, and to see that emotion before this match is fantastic. He's a brilliant player and I'm sure he'll be up for it today.

The rest of the Springboks follow The Beast onto the field and the noise levels are quite something. Fireworks shoot into the sky.

The South African players slap each other on the backs and beat their chests.

We'll now have a moment of silence for former Springbok Syd Nomis who passed away today.

    Here come the players.

England appear from the dressing room first with captain Owen Farrell looking menacing, chewing gum Sir Alex Ferguson-style.

Tendai ‘The Beast’ Mtawarira is cheered onto the pitch, carrying his daughter and son in each arm. A fine reception on his 100th South Africa appearance.
