    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

Edinburgh have only had to attempt seven tackles in the opening 18 minutes. That tells you how dominant they've been. And also how annoyed they'll be at not turning that supremacy into points.

  2. Edinburgh continue to frustratepublished at 17 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

Yep, as Peter says, Stuart McInally's throw is pinched from Ben Toolis' arms at the tail and Connacht punt their way out of the 22.

Edinburgh have another line-out. This time they win it, but the ball is knocked-on in midfield. This is maddening stuff from the home side.

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

Edinburgh have got to have something to show for that 15 minutes of domination. If they get a try, brilliant, but that was a guaranteed three. And they've lost that line-out too!

  4. Postpublished at 15 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

However, from the resultant scrum, Edinburgh win a penalty. Van der Walt goes for the corner again. Edinburgh want tries.

  5. Edinburgh can't convertpublished at 13 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

That line-out comes to naught for Edinburgh, as they fumble possession forward inside the Connacht 22. It remains scoreless after 13 minutes.

  6. Edinburgh 'varying' attack wellpublished at 12 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

Edinburgh are taking them on physically with the forwards then stretching them out wide. They're varying things and that's how they got the Scott chance. Connacht are decent in defence but you're going to be decent defensively in the first 10 minutes. The challenge for Edinburgh is whether they can keep this tempo and variation in attack up.

  7. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

Edinburgh win a penalty for offside just inside the Connacht half and Van der Walt boots them to within 10m of the visitors' line.

  8. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

    Colin Gregor
Former Scotland sevens captain on Radio Scotland

Connacht's defence had been good, Edinburgh had gone across the field for six or seven phases not making any yards.

Van der Walt is a very dangerous runner and glides through the gap

  9. Try-saver from Adeolokunpublished at 9 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

Cracking show-and-go from Jaco van der Walt, who lacerates the Connacht midfield defence. He draws the O'Halloran and finds Matt Scott haring up the touchline.

It's a brilliant cover tackle from Niyi Adeolokun, who hauls the Scotland centre into touch.

  10. Van der Merwe mobbedpublished at 8 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

Duhan van der Merwe comes crashing in at first receiver from the scrum, but he's wrapped up by three Connacht defenders and stripped of possession.

The Connacht kick-and-chase looks pretty dangerous, but Edinburgh win a penalty scrambling back.

  11. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

Referee Ian Davies has a stern word with both front-rows after three failed scrums, one of which results in an Edinburgh free kick. Hopefully we'll get the ball out soon...

  12. Edinburgh 'should dominate' scrumpublished at 6 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

It's a solid front-row Edinburgh have got and you would hope they'd get a bit of ascendancy in the scrum. You would expect Nel and Schoeman over the piece to dominate.

  13. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

Bit of a blunder from Niyi Adeolokun who spills Henry Pyrgos' box kick under no real pressure. Edinburgh scrum on the left, between the Connacht 10m line and 22.

  14. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

    Colin Gregor
Former Scotland sevens captain on Radio Scotland

The first two phases of Edinburgh's attack were outstanding, Matt Scott getting well over the gain line then going right out to the far side to Van der Merwe. In the end, it became a bit of a kicking battle as Connacht put the pressure on in defence.

  15. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

A couple of kicks later and Van der Walt's arrowed punt bobbles just over the try-line and is touched down by Matt Healy for a 22m drop-out.

Connacht take it short and clear their lines.

  16. Edinburgh flex their musclespublished at 2 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

Edinburgh win the first line-out of the game just inside their own half and come flying at Connach with Jaco van der Malt, Matt Scott and Blair Kinghorn punching holes.

  19. Fit-again Nel 'needs to front up'published at 19:32 British Summer Time 14 September 2018

That Edinburgh front-five is Cockerill's preferred front-five. Those guys hold the positions.

Pierre Schoeman has impressed me. He's a big, robust South African. He's pretty decent about the park and a decent scrummager. Stuart McInally's in the form of his life.

Nel is the one for me that really needs to front up. He's had a lot of injuries in the last 18 months.

The big worry is that these guys are playing a lot of minutes. The SRU control to an extent the minutes these guys have. I would assume the hardest part of being a professional coach is managing the players - you've got to look so far ahead.
