    Quote Message

Scotland are attacking well with the ball in hand and the Welsh defence looks a little bit narrow. Gregor Townsend will be happy with how his side have started this game.

  2. Pain in the neckpublished at 9 mins

    Scotland 0-0 Wales

Scotland's momentum is halted by a neck roll - that's a dangerous clear-out in layman's terms - at a ruck on the edge of the 22. Stuart McInally hauls Tomas Francis off the ball by his neck.

Penalty Wales and Gatland's men boot downfield for a line-out a metre shy of halfway.

Meanwhile, Scotland flanker Jamie Ritchie is heading off for a head injury assessment. Hamish Watson, back from a hand injury, gets his first taste of Six Nations action this season. Not a bad sub, that..

    Scotland 0-0 Wales

Scotland only get through a few phases before Rob Evans sticks a massive paw into the ruck and swipes the ball back on the Welsh side.

The sides exchange kicks and Scotland have it again outside the Wales 22 as Blair Kinghorn thunders forward.

  6. Drop-out bamboozles Daviespublished at 4 mins

    Scotland 0-0 Wales

A wee bit of shadow-boxing from Wales, who have a few cracks with ball in hand but are met with formidable Scottish tackling, Jonny Gray and Magnus Bradbury leading the charge.

They go wide to Adams who has space up the right flank, but his kick through bounces over the try-line and is grounded by Finn Russell.

Then there's a bit of a howler from Gareth Davies, who gets bamboozled by Russell's rasping drop-out and knocks it forward. It's a Scottish scrum on the Welsh 10m line and the hosts' first chance to attack.

  7. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Scotland 0-0 Wales

Wales gather their own kick-off through the charging Ross Moriarty and mount the game's first attack. They truck it up a couple of times then hoist a trademark cross-field kick for Josh Adams.

Blair Kinghorn rises but knocks the ball on just shy of the Scottish 10m line. It's a Welsh scrum.

Wales will want to play on the front foot and they think Gareth Anscombe is the man that can cut teams apart. He is a better attacking fly-half than Dan Biggar and Wales are trying to evolve their game.

Wales captain and Ospreys lock Alun Wyn Jones been a calming influence this week among the chaos.

And if Wales win today it will be his 62nd Test success in the red shirt which would be a record for his nation. Jones currently shares the Wales win record with fellow Lion Gethin Jenkins.

It would also give him a 50% win ratio - this is his 124th Wales cap.

  15. What a week in Wales!published at 14:05 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

    Scotland v Wales (14:15)

    Gareth Griffiths
    BBC Sport Wales at Murrayfield

Scarcely has there been a week in which Wales have a Six Nations match dominated by off-field politics.

That regional row has brought merger talks on, then merger talks off between Ospreys and Scarlets, claims, counter-claims and caustic statements flying around like shrapnel.

The players have been stuck in the middle but finally we have got to match day. After all, there is a Grand Slam to play for.

  16. Wales 'haven't spoken about Grand Slam' - Gatlandpublished at 13:59 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

    Scotland v Wales (14:15)

    BBC One

    Quote Message

We haven't even spoken about the Grand Slam - it's one game at a time. Wales came up here two years ago and didn't play well at all, so it's a big challenge for us. Scotland will be disappointed with the performance against France but this week has been about us and trying to prepare as well as we can. It was tough for the players in the first part of the week but we have spoken about the mental toughness of good players to put those adversities behind them.

  17. Are Scotland tough enough?published at 13:58 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

    Scotland v Wales (14:15)

Legendary Scottish and Lions coach Jim Telfer gave an interview to a rugby website, external this week, in which he delivered a pretty withering assessment of the toughness of the home locks.

“There is a lack of hardness in the front-five in particular,” Telfer said.

“If you take Richie and Jonny Gray, Grant Gilchrist, Ben Toolis – there’s none you would class as hard men. If you’re going up a close to have a fight with somebody, would you want them with you? I’m not so sure."

  18. Seymour and Gray hit half-centurypublished at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

    Scotland v Wales (14:15)

It's a special afternoon for Tommy Seymour and Jonny Gray, both of whom win their 50th Scotland caps.

Wing Seymour, 30, was one of only three Scots taken on the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand by Gatland in 2017. He's scored 19 tries in his 49 internationals so far and was actually the Lions top try-scorer on that tour, touching down three times, although he did feature in any of the Tests.

Lock Gray, still just 24, is known for his immense work rate and ridiculous tackle counts, but Townsend will want to see more of him punching holes with ball in hand.

  19. Doddie Weir Cup round twopublished at 13:50 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

    Scotland v Wales (14:15)

For the second time, Scotland and Wales will contest the Doddie Weir Cup today.

The trophy was inaugurated in November, in honour of the great former Scotland and Lions lock who is battling motor neurone disease with such immense courage and good humour.

Wales hold the cup by its trademark "lugs" (ears, for the non-Scots) after their victory in the out-of-window November Test.

  20. So, how do you beat Wales?published at 13:48 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

    Scotland v Wales (14:15)

How do you conquer a team on a record run of 12 wins, and a coach you haven't beaten in 10 attempts?

We spoke to Scotland great Chris Paterson, who gave us his tactical blueprint for Gregor Townsend's side.

It doesn't take cutting-edge analysis software to work out that not dropping the ball so often features pretty heavily in Paterson's plan.

You can read the rest of his interview with Thomas Duncan here.
