  1. Miserable day for Scotlandpublished at 62 mins

    Ireland 24-3 Scotland

    Andy Burke
BBC Scotland at the International Stadium Yokohama

The rain is pouring down here in Yokohama, Hamish Watson is sat on the bench in a knee brace wielding crutches, and the scoreboard from a Scottish perspective should only be viewed from through the cracks in the fingers.

There was so much positivity coming from the Scotland camp all week, but it’s hard to see how they put a positive spin on such an insipid performance.

  2. Ireland almost in againpublished at 60 mins

    Ireland 24-3 Scotland

Very nearly a fifth Irish try, and what a score it would have been, especially in these wretched conditions.

Chris Farrell goes thundering through the Scottish defence, and releases Jordan Larmour with a back-handed off-load.

Larmour's ball to Stockdale is just behind the winger, who can't take it cleanly, and Scotland are spared further pain.

The Scots have made another sub, Tommy Seymour replaced by Darcy Graham.

  3. 'No urgency from Scotland defence'published at 10:18 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

    Ireland 24-3 Scotland

    Shane Horgan
Former Ireland wing on BBC Radio 5 Live

    Quote Message

How do you explain the lack of urgency in the Scotland defence? They are not resetting the line fast enough and have been exploited for a number of tries as a result.

  4. 'Murray on the money with his Garryowens'published at 10:18 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

    Ireland 24-3 Scotland

    Tony Ward
Former Ireland fly-half on BBC Radio Ulster

    Quote Message

Conor Murray's two perfect garryowens were central to that try with Conway forcing the error after the second kick and superbly finishing off the move.

  5. Sexton safeguardedpublished at 59 mins

    Ireland 24-3 Scotland

A few more Irish replacements - Tadhg Beirne on for Iain Henderson, who has had a fantastic game.

There's also no sense in keeping Johnny Sexton, who appears to be carrying an injury, on the park any longer. Jack Carty comes on for him and lets fly with a lovely touch-finder with his first touch.

  6. try

Try Ireland 24-3 Scotlandpublished at 56 mins

    Andrew Conway

Game. Over. Ireland's kicking game pays dividends as a towering bomb drops on Ryan Wilson and the Scotland number eight can't take it.

Ireland gobble up the ball. The brilliant Conor Murray sees open prairie up the blind-side, and sends Andrew Conway scampering past Grant Gilchrist and over from around 15m.

If there was any doubt about the outcome of this game, there certainly isn't now. Murray, still on kicking duties in place of Sexton, can't convert, but it won't matter.

  7. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Ireland 19-3 Scotland

Ireland clear, Scotland knock-on. The Irishmen have a scrum on their opponents' 10m line. They're so good at managing matches like this one.

Gregor Townsend is calling for reinforcements. Simon Berghan and Blade Thomson replace WP Nel and John Barclay.

  8. 'Scotland undone by handling errors'published at 52 mins

    Ireland 19-3 Scotland

    Shane Horgan
Former Ireland wing on BBC Radio 5 Live

    Quote Message

It's really difficult to see a way back into this game for Scotland. In these conditions - as we have just seen - there are going to be handling errors and it's hard to do phase after phase. Expect to see Conor Murray keep kicking deep into Scotland territory for the rest of the game.

  9. So near, yet so farpublished at 50 mins

    Ireland 19-3 Scotland

Much, much better from Scotland. It starts with a fantastic bit of robbery at the maul from Fraser Brown, ripping possession away from the Irish eight.

Scotland, this time, go direct. They power their way to within 10m of the Irish line. John Barclay cuts a sharp, hard angle off Greig Laidlaw but the ball squirts through his arms.

It was such a promising build-up with such a maddening end. Ireland's line remains unbreached.

Joe Schmidt has brought on Dave Kilcoyne in the front-row, replacing try-scorer Tadhg Furlong.

  10. It's torrential out there...published at 10:04 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

  11. 'Scotland have upped their intensity'published at 48 mins

    Ireland 19-3 Scotland

    Tony Ward
Former Ireland fly-half on BBC Radio Ulster

    Quote Message

There is clear increase in Scotland's intensity since half-time but the problem they have now is that the conditions are deteriorating which makes handling difficult. Ireland's tactic will be to feed off mistakes as the Scottish attempt to force matters - which they have to now.

  12. Scotland threaten - then kickpublished at 48 mins

    Ireland 19-3 Scotland

Really nice little half-break by Sean Maitland gets Scotland some much-needed front-foot ball.

Rather than keep the ball, though, Stuart Hogg probes a grubber into the Irish 22. It looked like a decent chance to go through phases and see if they can find a way of testing an Ireland defence that's had little to do.

  13. 'Like taking candy from a baby'published at 46 mins

    Ireland 19-3 Scotland

    Rory Lawson
    Former Scotland captain

    Quote Message

Another turnover for that Conway kick and chase - Iain Henderson nicked the ball from Greig Laidlaw like taking candy from a baby. Scotland breathe again, but they have to do something to change the narrative here.

  14. First fumblepublished at 46 mins

    Ireland 19-3 Scotland

The first of what we can confidently predict will be many knock-ons in this first half befalls Scotland.

Duncan Taylor lets a pass slip through his hands on the Ireland 10m line.

Finn Russell lashes the ball away in frustration.

This is pretty much the perfect scenario for Ireland - a three-score lead, physical domination and dreadful weather. What have Scotland got in response?

  15. 'Ireland must maintain intensity'published at 45 mins

    Ireland 19-3 Scotland

Paul Marshall on BBC Radio Ulster
    Former Ireland scrum-half

    Quote Message

Ireland must maintain their intensity. Scotland are capable of scoring in bursts as they showed at Twickenham earlier this year so Joe Schmidt will have been warning against any sense that the job is already done.

  16. Ireland pounce againpublished at 43 mins

    Ireland 19-3 Scotland

Scotland try to make inroads through Stuart Hogg, but they get turned over again. Ireland are bossing that breakdown battle.

They set off on the counter into a sizeable blind side, but as Andrew Conway chases his own chip-kick into the in-goal area, he pushes Hogg and is penalised.

  17. Aki staying offpublished at 42 mins

    Ireland 19-3 Scotland

We're hearing Bundee Aki has failed his head injury assessment so Chris Farrell will remain on.

  18. Kick-offpublished at 09:54 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

    Ireland 19-3 Scotland

The rain is thundering down now, the teams are back out, and Johnny Sexton gets the second half under way.

The declining weather will naturally suit the team with a lead to defend. Ireland can play territory, Scotland need points.

What does the second half have in store for us?
