  1. The story of the day sevenpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    FT: England 45-7 United States

So England have began their World Cup campaign with two bonus-point wins from their opening two matches.

The 2003 winners followed up victory over Tonga with a seven try rout of the United States in Kobe.

Eddie Jones says his side found their rhythm in the second half after being "seduced by the space" in the early stages.

Next up for England is their match with Argentina in Tokyo and Jones says his players are looking forward to facing the Pumas, who are "fighting for their lives".

Earlier in the day, Italy made it back-to-back wins with a bonus-point victory over Canada as they prepare for the Springboks next.

The World Cup game takes a break tomorrow but we will be back for live text coverage of Japan v Ireland on Saturday (08:15 BST).

    Until then...

    BBC Radio 5 Live

More from Eddie Jones on Owen Farrell: “I think he is missing half his nose so I’m sure it’s out there and I just hope it doesn’t end up on the BBQ tonight."

On Piers Francis' controversial tackle: "We will leave all of that to the judicial process and we are happy to take whatever they give us. Piers [Francis] went in to make a tackle and there is not one player in our team who deliberately tackles high. We want to tackle hard and sometime you make mistakes.

"I don’t think John Quill deliberately tried to take Owen [Farrell] out but he ended up hitting his head. Our players understand the game but there will be occasions where our players make contact with the head. Some of them might be mitigating circumstances and some of them might not.”

What's next? “We will have a couple of days off and then we will regroup and get ready for Argentina. They are playing for their lives so we are looking forward to it."

  3. 'We got seduced by the space'published at 14:24 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    FT: England 45-7 United States

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, England coach Eddie Jones said: “We wanted to go out hard against them and we scored early, but we probably got a bit seduced by the space and tried to move the ball too much.

"The conditions were such it was like a wet weather game, but we found our rhythm and tempo really well in the second half. We made some handling mistakes but we will improve. They are quite unique conditions, it’s 27C and it’s 70% humidity and the ball is like a cake of soap because we know we have got good players who can catch and pass, so it must be something else.

"They had 14 players in the line and it was hard to get a numerical advantage. As soon as we started to play through them we were much better.”

Unfortunately for John Quill and USA, it's come at the perfect time for the game as refs can say it's as clear and dry as it can be. It now has to be refereed the same.

John Quill is absolutely shattered and he has just had a blip in the mind. It is cut and dry and no one can argue that it wasn't a red card. He knew he was in trouble.

Jonny May will definitely come back in, especially as England will kick more against Argentina. Jonny has made that chase his own. He is genuinely rapid. If Jack Nowell is fit I'd throw him in. He's got something different to the other wingers out there.

He would have expected to make England work a bit harder - 40 missed tackles and you'll get blown away by any team. I think they've got to look at their set-piece.

  11. 'Poor performance'published at 14:01 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    FT: England 45-7 United States

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, United States head coach Gary Gold said: "It was a very poor performance and England were very good. They are deserved winners but we weren't very good.

"They pinned us in our own half and they did not give us an opportunity to play. We need to improve every aspect of our game but we cannot be missing 40% of our tackles and think we will be in the equation."

    Matt Dawson

The highlight for me was the discipline. I think there were only three penalties that were all in the first half. It is in stark contrast to where they were last week and the team needed to move on.

If they can get anywhere near four or five penalties against Argentina, they will blow them away. If they keep progressing like that, they are going to be a difficult team to beat.

  13. 'A good win again'published at 13:51 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

That was the most exciting bit in the whole game. I don't think anyone will begrudge that try at the end. Nic Berry did a great job of owning the game and making the big decisions. England will be quite happy with that.

England played really well and were probably worth a few more than 45 points, they were accurate and disciplined.

The handicap of the game was 40 points and the USA just nicked it at the end.
