You can see the sevens tradtion in the United States DNA.

They don't mind an offload and crabbing sideways run in search of space.

And here is a little innovation. AJ MacGinty, who left Lewis Ludlam crumpled with a delicious step earlier in the move, snaps a cross-field kick for Martin Iosefo on the wing.

The former sevens man takes it, but is shovelled out into touch by another - England's Ruaridh McConnochie.

That was rolling maul 101 from England. They just steamrolled the States.

    Billy Vunipola (con Ford)

Good drill from England. That was straight off the Surrey training paddock into the sweltering heat of Kobe.

Billy Vunipola is locked into back of the driving maul which oozes around some flaky US defence and over for the score.

    George Ford adds the extras.

England have a penalty advantage as they fail to release in the tackle.

George Ford kicks away possession and starts the discussion with his team-mates.

    Sticks or corner?

    England go to the corner...

The pace that Eddie Jones promised is there, but so too are too many of the errors that slowed England's charge in their opener against Tonga. Four penalties conceded and three handling errors in the first quarter as exuberance mixes with imprecision.

Dee-fence, clap, clap, clap. Dee-fence clap, clap, clap.

I'm not sure if the American fans are doing the old high-school basketball thing on the touchlines, but centre Marcel Brache is getting his inspiration from somewhere.

The centre is up hard and fast to envelop Joe Launchbury and force the knock-on.

Launchbury was not done any favours by the pass from his England colleague however.

Paul Lasike thumps a clearing kick up to United States 22m.

The Americans are penned in their own half, but England have not found the cutting edge to increase their lead.

All a bit too much bludgeon, not enough scalpel.

I used to get so angry with that. Sometimes it needs someone in a team shouting to stop giving penalties away.

Small Man Peaky: England’s discipline already really poor. Far too many penalties being given away. Against better opposition they’re going to absolutely hammered.

Theo: England time and time again suffocate their own game by conceding needless penalties... that’s 4 inside 15 minutes

Piers Francis takes the opportunity to pour water over his head during the pause in play.

Don't blame him. Cannot emphasise enough how hot and sticky it is in here.

Piers Francis with space and men outside....but the US rush defence cuts off his options and forces him down a blind alley.

And then Shaun Davis gets to Willi Heinz at the base and nicks a turnover.

Heinz has not shown up well so far.

    England 7-0 United States

A bit of a messy disjointed period of the game.

The United States have been given away a scrum after an accidental offside following a fierce counter-ruck from England.

Ideal attacking platform for England 35m out.

But Willi Heinz is blown up for playing the ball on the floor. That is a second penalty given away by the nine.

A cross-field up and under from George Ford to test out Will Hooley under the high ball...

And the US full-back passes muster, just about, as he claims at the second attempt under pressure from Elliot Daly.

The States have given away a penalty on their own 10m line however after Ben Landry is pinged for neck-rolling Lewis Ludlam at the breakdown.
