    Japan 9-12 Ireland

Japan full-back Ryohei Yamanaka spills a Conor Murray box-kick over his shoulder and forward to give Ireland a set-piece on halfway.

There was not enough pressure on the Japan full-back. But their back three don't look secure under aerial bombardment. And they don't kick well either.

If Ireland can get their kick-chase game going there are gains to be made.

Ireland have really not found their momentum. They need to hold the ball, they've been without it for long periods of this match.

Ireland want to play the game in the Japanese 22 if possible, but when they're forcing Japan to run out they really need to make the most of it - that comes through turnovers.

As soon as the turnover comes they have to be switched on and looking for the try, when the opportunity arises Ireland have to be able to take them.

Japan moving the ball with menace and purpose once again. Is there space out wide?

There was. But Timothy Lafaele's hands let him down for once. Knock-on and Ireland will restart with a scrum just outside their own 22m.

The game is opening up now. Japan running from deep, which is a good option with their lack of kicking distance from deep.

Timothy Lafaele with another high-wire offload, one handed out the sunroof and straight into the hands of Lomano Lemeki.

Ireland's cover is across but that is a warning sign for Ireland.

Ireland's defence is not as bad as it was in that Twickenham warm-up against England. But the green shirts are falling off contact at the start of this second half, with a lack of line speed.

Japan have a game plan that suits their skills set. They move teams around and probably 1-15 the backs and forwards are all comfortable on the ball, far less structured.

The more open this game is, it does suit them.

    Japan 9-12 Ireland

We are up and running in the second half and Japan are close to another massive infusion of momentum.

Yu Tamura tickles a deft drop-out short and a superb chase from his pack almost secure the ball. A knock on from Shota Horie costs them the ball though.

The Irish embassy are making the most of Ireland’s moment in the spotlight in the Kobe fan zone.

The two women working there say Japanese supporters didn’t know much about Ireland before the World Cup fixtures were announced. Although most did know about a certain Irish stout of course...

So the embassy have turned up at the fan zone to educate locals about all things Irish culture.

The Kobe fans have absolutely no problem with Japan’s penalty-first policy. Every time Yu Tamura steps up to the tee they start a slow clap and explode into wild screams when the ball goes over.

Can’t wait to see what happens if Japan score a try.

Japan's handling has been sublime. They are playing really well and but for a bad bounce of the ball which denied them a try, they would be ahead.

    Japan 9-12 Ireland

    Shane Horgan
Former Ireland wing on BBC Radio 5 Live

Ireland around the breakdown are implementing a game plan that's not correct for this opposition - it might be right for a Six Nations side but this Japanese side is getting lightening fast ball.

Because that ball is coming back so fast and Ireland have no one in the ruck they're not able to get to the defensive line fast enough. It's very soft yards for Japan.

I don't think they'll be panicking, there are a couple of changes around the breakdown to slow the Japanese down. If you can slow that ruck ball down by a second, Ireland's line speed ups and the second pass is not possible to get away.
