Japan 9-12 Ireland
A little grubber ahead looking for the pace of Lomano Lemeki....
Where is this going? Green hand or home hand?
Neither. The touchline beats them all.
Oranges.

Japan 9-12 Ireland
Japan are working through the phases. Thirteen on the clock and they are up to the Ireland 22m..

The pressure now builds on Ireland. Japan will take huge encouragement from getting so close.
It's amazing the momentum of this game, Ireland have dominated for large parts but it's 9-12 and Japan will feel this is a game they can win.
Ireland will be a bit bemused they've not been able to make their dominance count.
Japan 9-12 Ireland
And Jack Carty kicks the restart long over the try line for Japan to dot down and set up the scrum on halfway.
The hosts have all the momentum with the clock in the red...

Ben Wire: I love how rugby defies conventional wisdom: the size of the USA means they have all the potential in the world, yet it's Japan whose work ethic and preparation are making Ireland work for everything
Yu Tamura
Oh yes!
The Japan flags are fluttering in the stands as Yu Tamura's mighty hoof lands to cut the gap to three.
Japan 6-12 Ireland
And Ireland are fading out of this half, while Japan are burning increasingly bright.
Josh van der Flier, getting frustrated at the shutout at the breakdown, has an illegal dart at the ball.
Angus Gardner spots it and Japan are going to take on the penalty...

Wow. The noise that greeted Japan's win at the scrum sounded as though they had nabbed a last-minute try.
A phenomenal sound in Shizuoka with the crowd keeping the volume turned all the way up through every line-break, big hit and turnover.
At the moment, Japan are rising to the crowd and Ireland will be glad to hear the half-time whistle.
Japan 6-12 Ireland
That might be the biggest cheer of the match so far.
Japan's pack send Ireland into a tailspin at scrum-time. Up flies Angus Gardner's arm to award the penalty the hosts way.
Prop Jiwon Koo and hooker Shota Horie are hollering like they are on a frat house day trip, scrum-half Yitaka Nagara is slapping buttocks and screaming his own congratulations.
They enjoyed that.

That line-out looked like they got their calls wrong, it was so far away from where the lifters were. A miscommunication there and Ireland were on the back foot.
That's the first time we've seen Japan go through more than six phases and the pressure told.
Ireland will be annoyed with themselves because that came from an Irish error.
Yu Tamura
Yu Tamura could have back-heeled that one over.
Japan back to within a converted score.
Japan 3-12 Ireland
An overcooked line-out throw from Rory Best is snaffled by opposite number Shota Horie at the back of the queue.
Ireland on the back foot and Conor Murray is a little over-eager as he attempts to staunch the flow. The Ireland scrum-half does not released the tackled man and this is a gimme of a penalty right in front...
Japan 3-12 Ireland
A big change for Japan as inspirational captain Michael Leitch, who was surprisingly left on the bench by Jamie Joseph, comes into the fray for Amanaki Mafi, who has picked up a rib problem.
Japan 3-12 Ireland
Unfortunate for Japan's second row James Moore. He was not held in the tackle by Iain Henderson, picks and go, but a team-mate has got in front of him and that is offside as he runs into his colleague.

Japan have got to find a way to figure out how to have the patience to take Ireland through more phases.
Ireland will be happy, Japan will be frustrated.
Their passing looks good but Ireland's defence is hitting extremely hard to slow the ball and Japan are struggling to take Ireland through the phases.
Japan 3-12 Ireland
Japan centre Timothy Lafaele with a lovely one-hand offload, shovelling the ball out the sidedoor with a sleight of hand to make Dynamo proud.
Kotaro Matshushima has space on the wing and chips ahead. Josh van der Flier shows his mobility and pace to pop up back there to tidy up with a mob of Brave Blossoms chasing like fury.
Japan 3-12 Ireland
Ireland are playing for the percentages effectively, keeping the hosts pinned deep with good kicks and turning down the volume on the crowd.
Japan coach Jamie Joseph is chuntering away to his colleagues...

Jack Carty saw Ireland had a penalty so put the speculative kick up into the air, not particularity high. Rob Kearney just managed to ground it before being hauled back.
Japan really haven't been able to build any sort of momentum since that opening patch. They have got to test Ireland's defence from that multi-phase play, which they're really strong at.
Rob Kearney (con Carty)
Jack Carty is showing something different.
The Ireland fly-half makes full use of the penalty advantage as he chips aheadw, climbs highest to tap back to Rob Kearney, who just about squirms his way over.
And Carty lands the extras.
Japan 3-5 Ireland
Rob Kearney is over, but refereee Angus Gardner is rocking and rolling the VHS to see if the ball was knocked forward in backplay or spilled on grounding...
