  1. 'Irish backs will try and stretch England'published at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    England v Ireland (15:00 GMT)

    Jamie Heaslip
Former Ireland number eight on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

The Ireland backs are starting to use the field a bit more. In the opening game against Scotland, they were quite tight. Against Wales they used the width a bit more, and that was helped by Wales being so soft on the edge.

Today they're not going to get that. They will try and stretch the England defence, but England are so good at what they do - they'll shut it down all day.

  2. Teams outpublished at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    England v Ireland (15:00 GMT)

The ominious bongs that precede the teams' arrival ring out around Twickenham.

Devin Toner is filling the tunnel like a man of six foot 11 inches can. Ellis Genge, on the bench, sniffs some smelling salts or similar to focus in.

Jonathan Joseph, winning his 50th cap, leads out the hosts. Anthems incoming.

  3. 'Eddie Jones makes it all about him'published at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    England v Ireland (15:00 GMT)

    Jamie Heaslip
Former Ireland number eight on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

With Eddie Jones, you can't tell him any other way. He's backed his way into a corner [on team selection]. He seems to make it all about him, he's got an ego. He's not able to swallow his pride and maybe change it up.

  7. 'England bubbling away nicely'published at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    England v Ireland (15:00 GMT)

    Matt Dawson
England World Cup winner on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

England are in an OK position. They're one comfortable win away from that confidence and momentum they had at that World Cup. It wasn't a pretty start for England, they got a lot of things wrong going into that France game - Eddie Jones in particular, the way he went mouthing off in the media.

There are probably lessons learned, it was a really good recovery at Murrayfield. They're bubbling away nicely.

  8. 'Ireland could play England at tiddlywinks and it would be huge'published at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    England v Ireland (15:00 GMT)

    Jamie Heaslip
Former Ireland number eight on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Ireland could be playing tiddlywinks against England and it would be absolutely huge back in Ireland! This is the game you want to play in.

The last time we were here we won the Grand Slam. That will be a memory for the players and they won't be afraid to come here, but they will know this England team haven't been home for a long, long time and they'll want to put on a show. The Irish boys definitely don't want it to be their day.

You should see the other guy....

England flanker Courtney Lawes came a cropper thanks to a training ground collision.

The big man shrugged it off with the casualness you would expect.

"It's just a boo boo. Nothing too crazy. It's all fine... just a clash, my head on something, not sure what," he said.

"I'm hoping it will go down a bit. It's all right - I got through training."

  12. Sir Steve rowing back the yearspublished at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    England v Ireland (15:00 GMT)

    Matt Dawson
England World Cup winner on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

    We had Sir Steve Redgrave.

The one thing I remember was that he was describing going through that pain barrier. He was rowing against the Australians and you get to that moment when you can’t put another step and you’re gone in training. He would always think about doing an extra 10 strokes. He knew he could get to 10 because the Aussies would only ever get to nine.

That was his mentality that he just needed to pull the oar one more time harder, faster and stronger than the opposition. They are quite inspirational moments when they get it right.

  13. Marvellous Marvinpublished at 14:29 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    England v Ireland (15:00 GMT)

    Shane Horgan
Former Ireland wing on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

"It would be fun if you were one of the team. Larry Mullen, the U2 drummer, is a big rugby fan. It’s not as big a deal for all Irish people – nearly everybody has met Bono at some point.

"Every year they had a tradition of Christy Moore coming in and doing a private concert every year. It was one of the amazing things about playing for Ireland. And Marvin Hagler came into Irish camp before 2003."

Ireland has one heck of a celebrity speaker in camp before this match.

U2 frontman Bono was on hand to dish out some advice and mysterious sauce for Johnny Sexton for the boys.

Flanker CJ Stander summed up the gist of Bono's message to the troops.

“Irishness is not something you can put into words, or something you can define, it is not something you tap into, it is something that is in you," said Stander recounting Bono's words.

"I’m not saying it is in me but I have seen it over the years coming out of players and people. He [Bono] said it is something that comes out when the going gets tough.”

  15. Praise for Peyperpublished at 14:21 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    England v Ireland (15:00 GMT)

    Chris Jones
BBC rugby union correspondent at Twickenham

Eddie Jones tells BBC Sport England’s two thumping wins over Ireland last year will have “absolutely zero” bearing on the game this afternoon.

He says the game could be won and lost at the breakdown but feels in the South African referee Jaco Peyper they have “the best referee in the world” in charge today.

  16. Ireland have changed style - Jonespublished at 14:21 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    England v Ireland (15:00 GMT)

    Eddie JonesImage source, Getty

Eddie Jones speaking to BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Ireland traditionally have been very good in the air given their Gaelic football background and that is an area they may look to expose, but in their first two games in the Six Nations they tend to pass the ball a lot more than they normally have.

"We have looked at their last two games fairly closely to see what changes they have made under the new coach."

On the blustery wet conditions: "It is a winter sport rugby, you expect these sort of conditions and we are prepared for them."

Live radio commentary of this match is on 5 live sports extra following the conclusion of England women v Ireland women.

It is all a lot more straightforward for Ireland.

Ireland lock Iain Henderson is out of the match for family reasons with Devin Toner filling the void.

The inclusion of Leinster's Toner, capped 69 times by Ireland, is the only change to the line-up.

Toner's promotion sees Connacht second-row Ultan Dillane join the list of replacements.

    Ireland:15-Jordan Larmour, 14-Andrew Conway, 13-Robbie Henshaw, 12-Bundee Aki, 11-Jacob Stockdale, 10-Johnny Sexton, 9-Conor Murray; 1-Cian Healy, 2-Rob Herring, 3-Tadhg Furlong, 4-Devin Toner, 5-James Ryan, 6-Peter O'Mahony, 7-Josh van der Flier, 8-CJ Stander,

    Replacements:16-Ronan Kelleher, 17-Dave Kilcoyne, 18-Andrew Porter, 19-Ultan Dillane, 20-Caelan Doris, 21-John Cooney, 22-Ross Byrne, 23-Keith Earls

Eddie Jones' line-up is funkier than James Brown's disco pants.

Jonathan Joseph, whose previous 38 international starts have all come in midfield, is on the wing with Elliot Daly back into full-back in place of the injured George Furbank.

Manu Tuilagi is back from injury in midfield, with Courtney Lawes and Joe Marler in the pack.

    England:15-Elliot Daly, 14-Jonny May, 13-Manu Tuilagi, 12-Owen Farrell (captain), 11-Jonathan Joseph, 10-George Ford, 9-Ben Youngs; 1-Joe Marler, 2-Jamie George, 3-Kyle Sinckler, 4-Maro Itoje, 5-George Kruis, 6-Courtney Lawes, 7-Sam Underhill, 8-Tom Curry

  20. 'The choir will be behind them'published at 14:07 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2020

    England v Ireland (15:00 BST)

    Michael Cheika
    Former Australia head coach

It is going to be a very interesting match. If Ireland can set up a final day with France it will be unbelievable.

I think there will be a bit of blue still in England after the World Cup final. They have got to find their way out of it and I think they will.

First game back at HQ, the choir will be behind them.
