  3. 'Everyone but us was talking about the slam'published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2020

    FT: Scotland 28-17 France

A rather crestfallen France number eight Gregory Alldritt tells BBC One: "A lot of frustration but before the game we didn’t think about the grand slam. We knew we had a very tough game today.

"We cannot control everything in the game and even with 14 on the field we had to carry on and we made too many mistakes to win.

"Everyone was talking about he grand slam except us. We knew we had nothing to lose today. We are building a team and we will see next weekend against Ireland."

  4. France wait for Edinburgh win continuespublished at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2020

More reaction from both camps coming your way shortly.

Meanwhile, here's another stat for you - Scotland have now beaten France on their past four visits to Murrayfield.

They remain level on points with England at the summit, but have slipped to second on points difference. They now cannot seal the championship next weekend against Ireland. That will have to wait until England's postponed final match against Italy is played.

Scotland captain Stuart Hogg on BBC One: "The only pressure that we feel is the pressure we put on ourselves. We challenge ourselves on a daily basis and there's no better feeling than winning in this jersey.

"We came out here to win and we’re chuffed to bits with that. We’ll enjoy tonight, recover well and get ready for Wales next week."

  6. Can you beat Wales? 'Why not?'published at 16:57 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2020

    FT: Scotland 28-17 France

Scotland flanker and man of the match Jamie Ritchie: "Absolutely delighted. Huge energy from the crowd today and the boys played out of their skins."

On the Mohamed Haouas punch that earned the French prop a red card, he says: "I don’t know. It’s international rugby, tempers get heated sometimes, physical game and sometimes stuff happens.

"We love playing at home, and we wanted to do it for the fans today and for ourselves. There's been a lot of chat around this tournament for ourselves and we knew we had the opportunity to win some games."

And can Scotland beat Wales away next weekend?

    "Why not?"

  7. A rousing triumphpublished at 16:56 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2020

    FT: Scotland 28-17 France

That was the rousing, confrontational, belligerent display Scotland fans have longed for. Putting this French team to the sword - even with a man advantage for about 50 minutes - is no small feat.

They climb to third in the table on 10 points, and suddenly, a win in Cardiff next weekend makes for a very tasty Six Nations campaign.

  8. Full-time Scotland 28-17 Francepublished at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2020

So close for Scotland. Blair Kinghorn sears up the left, kicks ahead, but kicks just too far with three home players haring after the loose ball.

Still, a sensational victory for Gregor Townsend and his troops. They needed this. The French grand slam dream is quashed in emphatic fashion. The complexion of Scotland's Six Nations changes drastically.

    Scotland 28-17 France

Glorious chip over the top of the advancing Scottish defence from Jalibert, into the warm embrace of Virimi Vakatawa, who thunder up to halfway.

Again, France can't keep hold of the pill. Under big Scottish pressure, they lose it forward.

This really is the last chance for a home bonus point. Scrum on halfway, clock red.

Oh, and Duncan Weir is on for a first cap in three years.

    Scotland 28-17 France

Not quite. Adam Hastings rips a pass off the right hand but it's too far in front of Sam Skinner, and skooshes into touch.

The ball is back in French hands in the away 22. One minute to go.

  11. Postpublished at 79 mins

    Scotland 28-17 France

Oh, hang about. Thomas Ramos gets charged down five metres from his own line. France win the line-out but they're under huge pressure on their own line.

Two minutes left, they really need to keep ball in hand and try to go from deep, but Jalibert opts to hoof clear.

Now then, one last chance for a Scottish bonus .

    Charles Ollivon

That would have been a superb try with 15 men, never mind 14, with four minutes left.

Scotland stop the initial assault and Stuart Hogg hammers clear, but Gael Fickou launches a stunning counter-attack.

Matthieu Jalibert races into the Scottish 22, the ball is swept to the right, and Charles Ollivon the captain dummies and powers his way to the whitewash.

Jalibert converts. France are still in with a shout of a losing bonus point here - that could be crucial for their title aspirations.

  14. Postpublished at 75 mins

    Scotland 28-10 France

It doesn't look like the bonus point is coming for Scotland. There's a big old turnover from Gregor Alldritt and France boot the penalty into the home 22.

Fabien Galthie's men look to finish with a flourish as they claim the line-out and launch what will probably be a final raid on the Scottish line.

  15. Can Scotland claim a bonus point?published at 72 mins

    Scotland 28-10 France

Scotland so very close to a bonus-point try. Adam Hastings hoists a towering up-and-under on Gael Fickou, Kyle Steyn wins the tap-back and Chris Harris powers into the French 22.

The centre's pass is just too low for George Horne to collect, it's knocked on, and France have a scrum 15m from their own posts.

  16. Wonderful Watsonpublished at 69 mins

    Scotland 28-10 France

Yet another exceptional pilfer from Hamish Watson, who makes a big tackle and then rips the ball clear from French hands.

George Horne gets bundled into touch but Allan Dell nicks it back for Scotland, who will have a scrum.

Meanwhile, French captain Charles Ollivon is going to need some treatment. His lifters completely lost control of the flanker as he soared to take the line-out, and the big fella clattered to deck from a great height. He's going to be okay to continue, though. A seriously tough bloke.

What a wonderful moment for Kyle Steyn, who comes on for his first cap with 13 minutes to play. A huge ovation for double try-scorer Sean Maitland.

WP Nel is also on for Zander Fagerson at tight-head prop.

    Stuart McInally

Wow! From zero to hero! That's the game - and the grand slam - gone. And it stems from a stolen Scottish line-out.

Stuart McInally's throw to the front is pinched, but the ball bounces perfectly into the arms of the Scotland hooker, who thunders up the unguarded touchline and plunges over the line.

Adam Hastings bangs over the conversion. Scotland are in the clear, and just one try away from an incredible bonus point.
