France really are throwing everything they have at this - it's not the cohesive unit we saw in the opening three games but they are committing themselves individually.

Back in sunnier times at Murrayfield, and sunnier moments for Scotland, here's a look at Sean Maitland's excellent second try.

Another rocky line-out from Scotland. Stuart McInally's first throw since coming on is squint. France have the put-in to a scrum on the home 10m line. This game is not dead yet.

  4. Penalty Scotland 21-10 Francepublished at 63 mins

    Matthieu Jalibert

Over she goes. France are within two scores of the lead now.

France are flexing their considerable muscles now. Virimi Vakatawa makes some colossal carries as the blue jerseys tumble towards the Scotland line.

They win another penalty and this time, Jalibert goes for the goal. The rain is beginning to come hammering down at Murrayfield.

  6. Townsend sends for the cavalrypublished at 61 mins

    Scotland 21-7 France

Meanwhile Scotland have brought on Allan Dell, Stuart McInally, Magnus Bradbury and George Horne for Rory Sutherland, Fraser Brown, Nick Haining and Ali Price.

Okay, this is unmitigated anarchy now. Anthony Bouthier makes a scything break to within 10m of the Scottish line, then France cough it up.

Adam Hastings hammers miles back into the French half, where everybody is trundling after it. Antoine Dupont wins the rather pedestrian race to the ball, and France eventually earn a penalty.

Matthieu Jalibert punts down to the Scottish 22 and France will come again.

Again, France begin to up the ante, and puncture the Scottish defence. Despite their numerical disadvantage, they are still capable of battering holes in the home line.

This team, their progress is stopped by a neck roll from Jean-Baptiste Gros on Jamie Ritchie.

For the uninitiated, that's when you grab a bloke by the neck at the ruck and roll him sideways to stop him stealing possession.

France turn Scotland over from the attacking phases that follow, Stuart Hogg boots long, and Mattheiu Jalibert touches down for a French 22m drop-out.

  9. Why Haouas saw redpublished at 55 mins

    Scotland 21-7 France

This doesn't get any better. Here's the footage of Mohamed Haous - literally - seeing red after punching Jamie Ritchie in the face.

  10. Vakatawa pouncespublished at 55 mins

    Scotland 21-7 France

Oh, that's a wonderful turnover from Virimi Vakatawa. The Fiji-born colossus survives about three clear-out attempts to lodge himself over the ball and halt the Scottish attack in its tracks.

Dupont takes the penalty quickly and France try to create something from deep.

It's all going wrong for France here. Down a man, their scrum is being repeatedly brutalised, despite the introduction of Jean-Baptiste Gros from the bench.

Scotland penalty and they kick into the French 22 again.

Almost a 14-point swing from what could have been a try at the other end. That was the decision from Stuart Hogg on the counterattack - he showed his intelligence.

Outstanding try from Scotland. They’ve delivered an excellent performance so far. Will France stay in the fight? Or capitulate?

It's hard to overstate the importance of Hamish Watson's turnover in the lead-up to that Scotland try.

France were five metres - and probably a phase or two away - from a try of their own. Instead, Watson scuppered their attack, and a couple of minutes later, Scotland were scoring down the other end.

  16. converted try

Converted try Scotland 21-7 Francepublished at 45 mins

    Sean Maitland

Glorious score! Scotland go from 60m, and it's all about the vision and calmness of Stuart Hogg.

First, the Scotland full-back rescues a horrible bouncing line-out ball inside his own 22 and blasts his team to safety.

Then, he picks up a French kick on his own 10m line and sets off on the counter, jinking and arcing and putting Chris Harris galloping into space. Ali Price is running the inside support line, gets the pass and is hauled down 5m short of the posts.

Scotland fling it right, and again Sam Johnson sends Sean Maitland scurrying home for his second try of the game. Adam Hastings slots a stunning touchline conversion.

This is a commanding home lead now.

  17. Watson wins another turnoverpublished at 44 mins

    Scotland 14-7 France

Penalty Scotland! Hamish Watson again does the crucial bit of burglary in the shadow of his own posts. A very dangerous situation averted.

It looked like France were a touch lucky to continue attacking - Virimi Vakatawa played the ball illegally on the deck in the lead-up.

Anyway, Scotland are out of bother for now.

Here come the French! Galthie's 14 men have absolutely rocketed out of the blocks and they're win five metres of the Scotland line.

Some huge carries from Charles Ollivon and Gael Fickou.

  19. Kick-offpublished at 41 mins

Stuart Hogg gets the second half under way.

Can Scotland make their man advantage and seven-point lead tell?

Or will France recover to earn what would be a truly magnificent comeback win?

At the moment, the grand slam is in grave jeopardy.
