    Wales 29-13 Ireland

Another Wales replacement as hooker Mefin Davies is taken off for Robin McBryde.

Davies has been one of the unsung heroes of this campaign. To think he did not have a professional contract at the beginning of the 2004-05 season after the Celtic Warriors folded in 2004.

Now he is on the brink of becoming a Grand Slam winner. A remarkable story.

It would have been easy for Ireland to fold and fall further behind but they have kept battling.

This is where the crowd really need to get behind Wales.

Marcus Horan try, David Humphreys conversion

Wales have switched off and allowed Ireland to score a first try. Replacement prop Marcus Horan, who has only been on the pitch for a few minutes, powers through Gethin Jenkins and Adam Jones to score.

Ireland are still three scores adrift but Wales just need to be careful as iconic prop Adam Jones leaves the field to be replaced by John Yapp.

    Wales 29-6 Ireland

Wales have taken their foot off the pedal and allowed Ireland to attack again in the second-half.

Eric Miller has replaced Anthony Foley while Frankie Sheehan, Marcus Horan and Donncha O 'Callaghan come on for Shane Byrne, Reggie Corrigan and Malcolm O'Kelly.

    Wales 29-6 Ireland

It's 27 years but who's going to tell Brian Moore? Not us.

Wales coach Mike Ruddock and his staff seem to think it's job done as well, judging by their beaming smiles and bear hugs.

That was an excellent try, typical of the exhilarating rugby Wales have played during this competition.

    That's curtains for Ireland.

For Wales, 30 years of history, 30 years of longing, of desperation, have probably ended now.

They can believe now because I don't see any way back for Ireland.

Kevin Morgan try, Stephen Jones conversion

That has to be the Grand Slam sealing score and what a try!

Captain Michael Owen, who has been a revelation since taking over the leadership duties after Gareth Thomas was injured against France, lays the foundations with a sniping run.

Following a stylish Martyn Williams dive pass, Shanklin scythes through the Ireland defence and sets up Kevin Morgan who sails over the line before being mobbed by his team-mates.

    What a moment!

    Wales 22-6 Ireland

It has been a real challenge for Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll today and he has been hammered again by Tom Shanklin with Wales winning an attacking lineout.

Shanklin receives treatment on his right shoulder but is fine to continue.

Is that Greco-Roman wrestling? What do you call that?

One thing's certain, there were no decent punches thrown.

I don't think there ought to be yellow cards. I can't see the point. Good refereeing from Chris White - no harm was done.

    Wales 22-6 Ireland

After Wales clear their lines there is an altercation between opposing locks Robert Sidoli and Paul O'Connell.

O'Connell seems to be the aggressor and has thrown a number of awkward punches on the ground that have not really connected. More wrestling than boxing maybe.

Both player shake hands before Chris White gives them a lecture with captains Brian O'Driscoll and Michael Owen. No yellow cards and the game continues.

    Wales 22-6 Ireland

David Humphreys is a more attacking Ireland threat at fly-half than Ronan O'Gara and has made an immediate impression.

He has helped pull the strings to give number eight Anthony Foley a chance to charge in the right-hand corner.

But he is denied by a much smaller Shane Williams who heroically and simply gets in his way and Foley's foot is in touch so no try.

    I think he lost it.

    Stephen Jones

Ireland are on the ropes as Wales launch an attacking onslaught with back-row duo Martyn Williams and Michael Owen again at the heart.

Ireland are penalised for a hand in the ruck and can be considered fortunate not to give away a yellow card.

Stephen Jones slots over the penalty and Wales now really believe they will achieve this Grand Slam dream.

A frustrated Ronan O'Gara leaves the field after a miserable afternoon to be replaced by David Humphreys.

Still Wales keep coming and a Shane Williams' high kick results in possession for the home side as they search for a second try.

A couple of overlaps are ignored before Martyn Williams, of all players, drops the ball with men outside him on the right-hand side. A glorious chance goes begging.
