They should really have scored there. I thought there were enough players.

If that (Geordan Murphy pass) has been slightly less lobbed, he (Girvan Dempsey) might have got there.

But Wales did well to come back on that because they were ripped asunder out wide.

  2. Penalty - Wales 13-3 Irelandpublished at 23 mins

    Gavin Henson

For the second time in Cardiff during this Six Nations campaign, Wales are indebted to a long-range Gavin Henson penalty.

Back in February he famously slotted over the match-winning kick against England and now his silver boots have produced a 52-metre effort to extend Wales' lead to 10 points.

    Wales 10-3 Ireland

Ireland centre and captain Brian O'Driscoll is the talisman for his side but he has been rattled in the opening quarter.

There was his early altercation with Brent Cockbain and now O'Driscoll has lost possession following a double tackle from Stephen Jones and Gavin Henson.

It leads to a penalty for Wales and a chance for Henson to kick at goal from inside his own half.

  5. Play up, Pompey!published at 20 mins

    Wales 10-3 Ireland

Those football scores keep popping up, and is that Portsmouth playing in the Premiership?

Yes it is, and the evergreen Steve Stone has scored for Pompey to equalise just before half-time against Newcastle.

  6. Mixed start for Morganpublished at 19 mins

    Wales 10-3 Ireland

It has been mixed fortunes for full-back Kevin Morgan so far.

First the good where he launches a long kick ahead to push Wales into Ireland territory before the bad where he fumbles a Brian O'Driscoll kick which leads to an attacking lineout.

I wonder if he will have a chance later on to redeem himself?

  8. Wales ahead for the first time through Jenkinspublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 11 April 2020

    Wales 10-3 Ireland

Gethin Jenkins has only scored two tries in a Wales shirt before today, could he have picked a better time to get his third?

It gives Wales the lead for the first time this afternoon, all eyes are on the prize.

Can you believe it?! From a prop!

He won't have been in that situation very often and, believe me, when the ball's wobbling around there it can go anywhere.

So he did well to control it. What a fantastic moment for him.

Converted Try - Wales 10-3 Irelandpublished at 16 mins

Gethin Jenkins try, Stephen Jones cons

Wales have scored the opening try and it has come from an unlikely source in prop Gethin Jenkins, who charges down a Ronan O'Gara kick.

Scrum-half Dwayne Peel had started proceedings with a quickly taken penalty in his 22. Brian O'Driscoll had repelled the Wales attack with a trademark rip of possession before O'Gara's mistake.

Jenkins charges down the kick, shows deft football skills to guide the ball over the line before flopping down on it for only his third Test try.

Glorious celebrations follow, including Jenkins throwing the ball in O'Gara's direction.

There have been a few unforced errors on both sides with Geordan Murphy and Ronan O'Gara guilty of wasted kicks.

Wales will be concerned about the lineout which has been wayward in the opening quarter.

  15. Drop-goal - Wales 3-3 Irelandpublished at 13 mins

    Gavin Henson

You can't keep Super Gav quiet for long as he records Wales' first points with a scruffy drop-goal that had a partial Ireland deflection.

His fellow centre partner Tom Shanklin is used on an arching inside line from quick lineout ball and Henson drops in the pocket to complete the rest.

    Wales 0-3 Ireland

Wales finally get some inspiration in a tricky opening period with captain Michael Owen powering through Ireland scrum-half Peter Stringer with a 10-yard burst.

Stephen Jones follows this up with a raking kick and Wales gain an attacking lineout just outside the Ireland 22.

  18. Niggle and dramapublished at 10 mins

    Wales 0-3 Ireland

Despite only one score so far you can't take your eyes off this game. Shane Williams and Kevin Morgan are casual as Girvan Dempsey chases a kick over the Welsh line before the danger is eventually repelled.

The first bit of real niggle in the game comes after Brian O'Driscoll is flattened by Wales lock Brent Cockbain and the Ireland centre takes umbrage to the challenge with a bit of afters between the two. All good knockabout stuff.

Just a brief talking to from referee Chris White although he was chatting to the wrong man in Wales centre Tom Shanklin.

  19. Momentum building for Walespublished at 8 mins

    Wales 0-3 Ireland

Wales are putting some phases together and we have seen the first glimpses of Shane Williams and Gavin Henson and an opening touch for emergency wing Mark Taylor.

The Irish defence remains solid for now and Henson is forced into a knock-on following a tackle from opposite number Kevin Maggs.

  20. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Wales 0-3 Ireland

Wales have a foothold in the game following an unconvincing start, and now they have a chance to level the scores.

After Gethin Jenkins gets away with a stray boot at a ruck, a charge from captain Michael Owen results in Ireland being penalised for handling in the ruck.

But Stephen Jones misses the easy penalty.
