  1. Fearless or foolish?published at 47 mins

    Wales 19-6 Ireland

There is no sign of this Wales adventurous side aiming to close up and stop playing simply because there is a Grand Slam in sight.

After repelling an Irish attack there was a chance to kick the ball dead but Tom Shanklin, Shane Williams and Gavin Henson only had the collective thought of scoring from their own tryline.

Wales are eventually penalised after Ryan Jones was guilty of holding onto possession. Ronan O'Gara misses the long range kick at goal.

  2. O'Gara in troublepublished at 43 mins

    Wales 19-6 Ireland

Ronan O'Gara is not one to keep his opinions to himself.

It was the Ireland fly-half who was offside to give Stephen Jones the penalty to extend Wales' lead, and he's not happy.

"We talked to you before the game about this," O'Gara stroppily tells referee Chris White.

    "Have a look at it."

O'Gara losing his cool? He was still muttering to himself when Jones slotted over the simple kick.

  3. Penalty - Wales 19-6 Irelandpublished at 43 mins

    Stephen Jones

The high tempo attacking play that has been a feature of this Wales Six Nations campaign is in evidence again at the start of the second-half.

It has forced Ireland to give away another penalty with Ronan O'Gara the offender in front of his own posts.

Stephen Jones slots over the easy effort. Opposite number O'Gara is not impressed with the penalty decision.

  4. Second-half underwaypublished at 41 mins

    Wales 16-6 Ireland

Ireland fly-half Ronan O'Gara gets the second-half underway with a long drop out.

Gavin Henson launches a huge return kick and Denis Hickie fumbles the ball in his own half.

Just the start Wales wanted to the second-half.

Phil Bennett (front left) and wing Gerald Davies (back right) are joined by former hooker Garin Jenkins (front right) to commentate on the game for BBC Radio Wales with Gareth Charles (front centre).

Just before the second half gets under way, the camera pans to the radio commentary box, where there is an abundance of Welsh rugby greatness.

Wales and British and Irish Lions legends, fly-half Phil Bennett (front left) and wing Gerald Davies (back right), are joined by former hooker Garin Jenkins (front right) to commentate on the game for BBC Radio Wales with Gareth Charles (front centre).

And the gentleman next to Davies is Radio Wales' presenter that day, Aberystwyth Town fan Oliver Hides.

  6. Half-time: Wales 16-6 Irelandpublished at 40 mins

Wales are 40 minutes from Grand Slam glory as they take a 10-point lead into half-time against Ireland.

There was that memorable chargedown try from Gethin Jenkins and a conversion and penalty from Stephen Jones.

This has been supplemented by a drop-goal and a long-range penalty from the silver boots of Gavin Henson with Ireland responding with two Ronan O'Gara kicks.

History awaits Mike Ruddock's men. Just one half of rugby remaining for both sides in this Six Nations campaign.

  7. 'More Irish ill-discipline'published at 39 mins

Again, another bit of Irish ill-discipline has robbed them of an attacking platform.

You're not allowed to touch him when he's in the air and they know that.

It's a penalty for Wales now and off they go.

  9. Lousy lineoutpublished at 38 mins

    Wales 16-6 Ireland

Wales' lineout in the first-half has been shocking and they have now lost a fourth throw.

The Ireland half-backs of Peter Stringer and Ronan O'Gara are happy to kick the ball into touch as the visitors look to continually exploit this set-piece weakness.

Wales need to tighten up in this area and will be grateful Irish indiscipline has resulted in them not being more exposed.

  10. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Wales 16-6 Ireland

Centre Tom Shanklin has been Wales' most incisive attacking weapon in the first-half and again breaches the Ireland defence with flanker Martyn Williams in support.

The move breaks down when Kevin Morgan drops a low pass, but you sense the Shanklin and Morgan combination might do some damage later in this game.

  11. Penalty - Wales 16-6 Irelandpublished at 35 mins

    Ronan O'Gara

Despite all the attention he is receiving from Wales and a mixed personal first-half, Brian O'Driscoll remains a class act.

The Ireland centre forces Wales to give away a penalty at a ruck. Ronan O'Gara makes no mistake with his second penalty to keep Ireland in touch.

  13. Look at those gloves!published at 13:58 British Summer Time 11 April 2020

    Wales 16-3 Ireland

Look at those gloves the Ireland players are wearing!

If anything says 2005 in this match, it's those odd, supposedly grip-enhancing mitts which were popular with a few rugby players back then.

Very of their time. Like Brian O'Driscoll's blonde highlights.

They must have seemed a good idea at the time.

  14. Penalty - Wales 16-3 Irelandpublished at 31 mins

    Stephen Jones

Wales are unsettling Brian O'Driscoll again.

After Kevin Morgan steps inside a missed tackle from the Irish centre, O'Driscoll is penalised for coming in at the side of the ruck in the visitors 22.

Jones steps up and slots over the penalty. After a stuttering start Wales are now in control.

  15. Henson and O'Driscoll's 'manly stand-off'published at 27 mins

    Wales 13-3 Ireland

    Brian Moore
Former England hooker on BBC One

It's been a fascinating contest between Henson and O'Driscoll.

They're two of the class centres in Europe on current form. They've been on fire recently.

    It's a bit of a manly stand-off but they're two great players.

  19. Glorious Gethinpublished at 26 mins

    Wales 13-3 Ireland

Gethin Jenkins is having a stormer. To follow up his opportunist try, the Wales prop produces a bone crunching tackle on opposite number Reggie Corrigan.

The Irish prop is rattled and has to be warned by referee Chris White for backchat.

  20. Ireland fighting backpublished at 25 mins

    Wales 13-3 Ireland

If Wales think they have the Grand Slam in the bag because they have a 10-point lead, the Irish backs have just given them a stern warning.

A clever set-piece move set up by Brian O'Driscoll saw back three trio Denis Hickie, Geordan Murphy and Girvan Dempsey combine before Dempsey is held up over the Welsh line with Stephen Jones, Kevin Morgan, Mark Taylor and Shane Williams producing excellent defensive work.

After Wales prop Adam Jones is treated for an ankle injury, the Ireland attacking scrum looses control and Dwayne Peel clears the danger before Dempsey kicks straight into touch. It's back and forth here.
