Ireland were rightfully denied a penalty try but France weren't.

The visitors almost seemed desperate to give the ball away!!

I thought it was a strange tournament. For Wales to go from Grand Slam champions to where they are now is pretty incredible.

For France, they looked poor at Twickenham and the Arriva Stadium last year, they looked so poorly coached but for them to go from where they were then to where they are, they genuinely look a world-class team. They are only going to get better and better. It's pretty exciting for the tournament. I think everybody has been longing for France to come back into the competition and get their act together and I think they've finally do it.

BBC rugby union correspondent on BBC 5 Radio Live

England got the job done and won the Six Nations but if we're asking who the best team in the Northern Hemisphere in 2020 has been - it has been France.

Only a losing bonus point that England got in Paris has meant they have won it.

It is joke that the Six Nations has losing bonus points - I can understand the four-try bonus points - but how you can reward a team for losing a match is beyond me.

We have seen the best team in the tournament tonight and they have not won the trophy.

Romain Ntamack was a delight inside the Stade - imagine how he would have performed with a packed crowd.

The 21-year-old Stade Toulousain fly-half is a very exciting prospect.

  7. 'We've got a brilliant blend of experience and youth'published at 22:10 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2020

England captain Owen Farrell speaking on BBC One: "It was enjoyable game [France v Ireland] to watch but it got to a point where it seemed like it was going our way and thankfully it did.

On Eddie Jones: "He's been brilliant. the best thing I can say is we all love being here and being in camp and we all love working hard to improve and hopefully you see that when we get out on the field."

On England's inexperienced side having more to give: "Massively, it feels like we're just getting started. There were four new caps today, someone who got their 100th cap in Ben Youngs and Jamie George who got his 50th. It feels like we've got a brilliant blend of experience and youth to drive us forward and being involved in training in the last few weeks has shown that to us and we're looking forward to what's in front of us as well."

On Ben Youngs: "I'm chuffed for him. It's a huge achievement reaching 100 caps, only the second person to do it for England, it's massive. To have such a good game, like he did, and to top it off with the trophy is brilliant."

When you play France now you need your own X-factor players who can create something from nothing like they can and score more tries. They are going to put tries on you now. If you give them half an opportunity they will score. The quality of their ability to take half an opportunity is top class.

    Their second-half performance was outstanding.

This was a lovely move on the left for the French. They don't score too many ugly tries.

    Martin Johnson
Former England captain and coach on BBC One

France will get tries on you. If you score four ties in a game you're win a lot of games. France just do that and pull tries out of the bag.

It was a very unlike Ireland performance in the second half. The line out just didn't work and there were handling errors.

    France are just lethal.

France should be happy with finishing second, that's a good return for them. They look to be a side that is developing and going from strength to strength. Their selection process is now, at last, solidified and they should be happy with how this has gone.

    FT: France 35-27 Ireland

    Paul O'Connell
Former Ireland captain on BBC One

Ireland performed poorly in the second half, there were a good few errors. They won a great penalty, missed the kick to touch, there were line-out malfunctions and the scrum come under pressure on more than one occasion.

But it's more about the France class. It's like that New Zealand type performance where you feel like you're doing well against them but you give them a half chance and they take it. That's what they have. They have X-factor players where if you give them half an opportunity to score a try they take it.

Jacob Stockdale trots over the line on the left and touches down - the ball still manages to slip out of his hands.

    Sorry, that was cruel.

He didn't have the best of days.

Any spark in the game appeared to have disappeared with that Virimi Vakatawa try. Ireland are still pushing for another score, but it's too little too late.

They were expected to go for it after the interval but that charge never materialised. Also the handling errors...
