You could see that Ireland try coming. When Ireland get into the opposition 22, their driving game is phenomenal whether it be the national side or the provinces.

    Quinn Roux

Better from Wales, who disrupt Ireland from that scrum.

Shane Lewis-Hughes thinks he's won a turnover from Jamison Gibson-Park, but the Ireland scrum-half survives.

Ireland recycle and it's lock Quinn Roux who picks up from close range and powers over.

He wasn't meant to be starting tonight but came in as a late replacement for Iain Henderson. What an impact.

    Johnny Sexton converts.

    Ireland 3-3 Wales

The scrum holds firm... then it buckles.

We'll have a reset and referee Mathieu Raynal will have a chat with both front rows.

    Ireland 3-3

    Ireland on the attack again.

Scrum-half Jamison Gibson-Park is ensuring they are playing at an excellent tempo, providing his backs with rapid service.

The ball is dropped but they have a penalty in kickable range.

Instead, they opt for a scrum five metres from the Welsh try line.

    A statement of intent.

    Lovely manners from Justin Tipuric.

The Wales flanker saw the ball at a ruck, walked towards and it gestured to the referee to ask if it was there to be taken.

Mathieu Raynal said no, Tipuric simply raised his hand in apology and retreated. How polite.

  7. Penalty - Ireland 3-3 Walespublished at 18 mins

    Leigh Halfpenny

Simple indeed for Leigh Halfpenny, who strokes over a penalty in front of the posts to bring Wales level.

That turnover penalty on their own try-line by Wales has really inspired the visitors.

They have a lot more energy now.

    Ireland 3-0 Wales

Better from Wales, whose lineout goes smoothly, Will Rowlands rising high at the back to pop the ball down to Gareth Davies.

Ireland concede another penalty at the next ruck and this should be a simple kick at goal for Leigh Halfpenny.

    Ireland 3-0 Wales

Ireland reclaim possession but they concede another penalty, and it's Ryan again pinged for holding on.

The home side have certainly had the better of the opening exchanges but that penalty count is mounting already.

    Ireland 3-0 Wales

This is a promising attack from Ireland, who are working their way diligently towards the Welsh try line with a series of solid phases.

Once they get within a yard of the try line, they opt to go up the jumper with the forwards.

But it comes to nothing, with lock James Ryan penalised.

Wales breathe a sigh of relief and clear with the penalty.

Wales had a lot of trouble at the scrum against Scotland and Ireland are targeting that area with Rhys Carre giving away two penalties.

After a bright start, it is worrying now for Wales.

    Ireland 3-0 Wales

Almost straight from the restart, Wales concede another penalty.

This time it's against Liam Williams, who is caught by James Lowe and Cian Healy.

Ireland kick to touch for a decent field position in the Welsh half.

    Johnny Sexton

The penalty is just inside the Welsh 22 and a little to the left of the posts.

No problem for the skipper, Jonny Sexton. Ireland lead.

    Ireland 0-0 Wales

Ireland kick the penalty to the corner but the throw is not straight, meaning Wales have a scrum five metres from their own try line.

However, more trouble for the men in red as they concede another scrum penalty.

Again, it's Andrew Porter getting the better of Wales loose-head Rhys Carre.

Johnny Sexton will kick at goal this time.

Both teams are to blame for the off-the-ball stuff.

They are acting petulant and need to focus on the rugby.

They need to channel it into the game.

    Ireland 0-0 Wales

That could be significant. A first scrum of the game and Ireland get the penalty.

Tight-head Andrew Porter, a man-mountain, earns a few taps on the back.

Some of the Irish celebrations of winning the penalty are a bit over-zealous, earning a warning from referee Mathieu Raynal.

  19. No love lostpublished at 7 mins

    Ireland 0-0 Wales

    Another scrap!

Ireland attack, Johnny Sexton breaks and throws a lovely pass to James Lowe but the Irish debutant drops the ball with open space ahead on the left wing.

Liam Williams gives him a shove and there's another melee but, again, there's not a great deal of animosity.

A pleasing start for Wales. They need to try and put some pressure, get some penalties and get into the Irish 22.
