A victory for the ages. Scotland have won at Twickenham for the first time in 38 years and it wasn't a smash-and-grab job, it wasn't a moment of individual brilliance, it was an all-round trumping of the hosts in every department.

England go back to the drawing board because they were badly off the pace today.

Scotland go to the firepit and take something fizzy to fill up the old jug with.

You can read about it here in Becky Grey's report from Twickenham.

All the same errors from England that go back to the World Cup final defeat. Starting with playing Farrell at fly half. I imagine we've just seen the 4th and 5th best teams scrapping for the plastic spoon - given that Italy have an iron grip on the wooden version

England coach Eddie Jones speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "They played tough, edged the set-piece, won in the air and we just could not get in the game. We were not at the races today.

"I take responsibility I didn't prepare the team well enough. We just had one of those days. We don’t have many, but we had a bad day today.

"I thought we fought back into the game well, with the possession and territory they had we hung in the game and had a chance to win at the end which is a great credit to our players considering we were off the pace.

"If you look at the world at the moment we are just grateful we can play rugby, we will just suck it up.

"We have Italy next, we will be ready for the next Test match. We will do everything we can."

Speaking to ITV, Scotland coach Gregor Townsend: "There was just a calmness about the way we played. We had a good feeling the last few weeks the way the players trained and bonded. it was the first time at the championship for a few players and they performed really well.

"To win here is really tough. Our line-out was superb, we really respect England's set-piece and we thought their line-out has been excellent in the last few seasons. Our scrum was solid and defensively we were very good.

"Then we were accurate in attack. It was difficult to move the ball wide in these conditions. You could hear them in the field with no crowd, they were in so much control today."

England coach Eddie Jones is just fronting up to the media microphones.

He's taking the blame. He says that the defeat is his fault for not preparing his team properly.

Do you think that is what he is saying behind closed doors? I'm not so sure...

  10. 'We knew we could win'published at 19:03 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    FT: England 6-11 Scotland

Scotland captain Stuart Hogg speaking to ITV Sport: "It's amazing for us, we believed in each other and to a man deserved it. We got excited during the week and we knew we could put in a performance. If we got everything right we knew we stood a chance of winning.

"We stood firm defensively, and that was the winning of the game. We went for multi-phase and caused England problems. We are not going to get too far ahead, enjoy this and then onto Wales next week.

"Cameron Redpath is an outstanding part of our team, he has brought huge energy and skill-sets to this team. I am delighted for him."

Now, the Six Nations regulations don't allow players to mix inside at their team hotel.

I hope Scotland's hosts have ordered in plenty of kindling because it is going to be a long night around the fire pit for Gregor's boys as they reminise about this game and have a beer or two.

Speaking to ITV, England captain Owen Farrell said: "Massive credit to Scotland first and foremost, for the way they played. They got a fair bit pf momentum off the back of a few penalties form us, they kept us out.

"We compounded them [errors] today. We didn't get a proper foothold in the game.

"We can talk about the attack and the defence, but it's all joined up. We are going to have to look at the game as a whole and look at how we can get back some momentum from today."

This is not a blip. It's not rustiness. It's the culmination of England's recent approach: Obsessed with kicking, over reliant on muscle and distrustful of creativity. It's so tedious I've decided to switch it off and have a bath.
