  1. Russell returnspublished at 48 mins

    England 6-8 Scotland

Finn Russell is back on just in time to bank an easy three from bang in front.

Ellis Genge is a little unlucky to have been pinged there. Looked like he made a decent attempt to wrap in a low tackle on a Scotland forward.

Scotland with a penalty advantage as well...

Scotland are repelled partly, but are still with the ball and within striking range.

They are 15m out and are playing it cutely with some heavy artillery charges round the fringes...

One minute until Finn Russell's return from the sin bin.

In the first half I was so impressed with the impact of Cam Redpath, and the influence he had with Finn Russell so he could sit back as a second playmaker.

Owen Farrell and Stuart Hogg indulge in a bit of kick tennis. Back and forth.

Until Hogg decides to keep the ball in hand and try something different.

Scotland playing one-out slow-tempo rugby. Perhaps squeezing some seconds out of the clock until they can get their sin-binned fly-half back into the fray.

Maro Itoje knocks on as he contests on the floor with Jonny Gray. Scotland will take their time over the set-piece...

Back under way and Stuart Hogg finds some early space as he breaks up to within 30m.

How will Scotland line up without Finn Russell to make the play for the next eight minutes?

Small Man Peaky: England under Jones have repeatedly shown themselves incapable of turning a performance around after a poor start. They look flat and the line out is faltering. Cannot play any worse in the 2nd 40.

Rustiness should not be an excuse. These are professional rugby players, this is their job. I'm a doctor, if I come back from a long holiday I'm not rusty.

That Duhan van der Merwe finish for the game's only try really was superb. He jagged in off the wing, brushed off Elliot Daly a little easily for England's liking and then twisted through Owen Farrell and Mark Wilson for the dot-down.

Dave: After all that effort, possession and pressure in the first half; it would be especially galling if Scotland go on to lose this game as a result of Russell's yellow card - they should be far more than 2 points up at half-time

Yep, that yellow card might weigh heavier than the two-point lead on the scoreboard. Are England favourites still from here?

Scotland steal the line-out and Ali Price hoofs the ball in the empty seats to bring the first half to an end.

It has been a great contest. Not all the thrills, spills and momentum swings of 2019, but more intrigue than an Agatha Christie novel.

The TMO maybe should have brought it to the referee's attention. Players should not be appealing for it to go to the TMO.

They got tot the right conclusion, it was a clear trip. All the officials missed and it was Owen Farrell pleading with the referee who brought it up. Is that the right process?
