    Scotland 10-14 Ireland

A much sharper start to the half this time for Scotland, with Hamish Watson putting in two excellent carries. But Jonny Gray is pinged for coming in at the side, and Ireland get themselves up the pitch.

Right, here we go. So many questions. Will Ireland turn the screw? Will Scotland ever win a lineout again?

I think the way Finn Russell is marshalling Scotland is great and he took the try well. He will be disappointed to miss a kick, but overall he will be happy. I think there will be some tired bodies in the second half and he and and Stuart Hogg will be able to pick them off

Paul: What was the half-time music on #bbcrugby, external for the Scotland v Ireland match. Sounded familiar but couldn’t work it out

    Can anyone help Paul out?

Just catching my breath after that manic 40 minutes. So many errors from both sides.

A four-point lead for Ireland at the break is probably about right. They've been the better team, especially at the set-piece and in the air.

  9. Penalty - Scotland 10-14 Irelandpublished at 15:49 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Johnny Sexton

An easy kick for someone of Sexton's calibre and that's that for the first 40.

    Scotland 10-11 Ireland

Unforgiveable from Ali Price. He jumps offside and gives Ireland captain Johnny Sexton the chance to make it a four-point game at the break.

  11. Missed penaltypublished at 39 mins

    Scotland 10-11 Ireland

Russell's kick from distance over on the left-hand side is wide and Ireland's lead remains intact.

Another seventy knock-ons later and Russell goes for a cross-field kick which lands in the hands of Chris Harris, but he can't hold on to it.

    Scotland 10-11 Ireland

The error count from Scotland is colossal at the moment. Despite Jamison Gibson-Park's wayward kick giving them possession in a decent area, the ball is spilled into touch.

At the lineout, Tadhg Beirne is penalised for crossing at the lineout and Finn Russell lines up a kick.

    Mistakes all around. Great viewing.

  13. Penalty - Scotland 10-11 Irelandpublished at 35 mins

    Johnny Sexton

No mistake from the Ireland captain! Instead of staring at a bigger deficit, Ireland nudge ahead.

Then Keith Earls wins a penalty from the kick-off.

    Scotland 10-8 Ireland

The swings of momentum in Test rugby. Scotland lose yet another lineout, Ireland clear and then win the penalty as Tadhg Beirne gets in at the breakdown.

Brilliant counter-attack stuff from Ireland. It's basic stuff, but it's what wins you Test matches.

  15. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Scotland 10-8 Ireland

A massive, massive penalty at the scrum for Scotland. They have been absolutely dominated at the set-piece so far, so that is a huge relief for them. If they were penalised there, it would probably have been three points for Ireland.

Instead, they gets themselves deep into Irish territory.

The scoreline is probably reflective of where the game is in terms of two teams who have lacked a little bit of structure in how they want to play, who have shown some absolute moments of brilliance combined with too many unforced errors.

It came from some scrappy play, but that's the danger Scotland have from very open play

  18. try

Try - Scotland 10-8 Irelandpublished at 27 mins

    Finn Russell

Incredible. Stuart Hogg charges down a kick, then kicks it off his own chest and not, crucially, his hand. Finn Russell follows up by booting it forward, James Lowe spills it over the line and Russell flops on it to score.

He then gets up to knock over the conversion. Scotland, somehow, lead.

    Scotland 3-8 Ireland

This is surely not a try. If it is, it's the most ridiculous score you're likely to see. Pinball all around.

Have Scotland scored? Or has Stuart Hogg knocked on?

  20. Furlong at the goose-stepspublished at 15:31 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

    Scotland 3-8 Ireland

Tadhg Furlong has just side-stepped two Scotland defenders as he exited his own 22. Behaviour that quite frankly, shouldn't be allowed from a prop. Ridiculous.

A crazy bit of play, which eventually ends with Sean Maitland being hauled into touch. Ireland lineout in their own half.
