saidmadrid: Very untidy game at the moment, neither Russell nor Sexton are ruling the game. I think Scotland depends more on Russell than Ireland on Sexton

Purple Tentacle: Scotland set piece is all over the place. They'll get nowhere unless they sort it out quickly

    Scotland 3-8 Ireland

A massive intervention from Hamish Watson as he gets over the ball to win the penalty. Jamison Gibson-Park is his victim.

It stops the rot for Scotland. Can they steady themselves and get back into the game?

  5. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Scotland 3-8 Ireland

Another penalty to Ireland as Scotland are caught offside. This is all very familiar...

    Scotland 3-8 Ireland

A delightful pass from Stuart Hogg sets Finn Russell away on the counter attack after an Ireland knock-on.

However, the pass out of contact is sloppy and Scotland knock forward this time. Ireland scrum just inside their own half.

This game is being played at a great intensity!

  8. Penalty - Scotland 3-8 Irelandpublished at 12 mins

    Finn Russell

A nice strike from Russell, and Scotland get themselves on the board.

A five-point deficit is not bad for the home side given they've barely touched the ball.

A chance for Scotland to get themselves into this game. Tadhg Furlong is pinged for not rolling away.

That's what Johnny Sexton brings: Variety to attack. This time he puts in two different types of kick, that's the ability as a number 10 to change the game.

  11. try

    Robbie Henshaw

    Just reward for the visitors!

A catalogue of errors from Scotland, starting at their own lineout.

Ireland counter and Johnny Sexton delivers a pearler of a kick into the massive Murrayfield in-goal area. Stuart Hogg and Chris Harris can't gather, and it comes off Keith Earls and goes backwards for Henshaw to dive on.

What a start by Ireland! Though Sexton hits the post with his conversion.

    Scotland 0-3 Ireland

Excellent defence from Sean Maitland as he hauls James Lowe into touch.

That just gets Scotland a little bit of breathing space...that is until they cough up their own lineout. As you were...

Almost the perfect start for Ireland, really good line-out and multi-phase attack, lots of power in their runners. Three points almost feels like a poor return from that start and that dominance.

    Scotland 0-3 Ireland

There are back slaps all round for the men in green. Rory Sutherland trucks it up for Scotland, but Tadhg Beirne and Iain Henderson hold him up, it becomes a maul and Ireland get the scrum.

Another good attacking platform just inside Scotland's half.

  15. Penalty - Scotland 0-3 Irelandpublished at 4 mins

    Johnny Sexton

A very easy starter in front of the sticks for the Ireland captain.

A really strong start from the visitors.

  16. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Scotland 0-0 Ireland

Ferocious carrying from Ireland gets them within metres, but Scotland hold out.

Finn Russell gets caught on the wrong side of the ruck and it's an early penalty for the visitors. Really good start. Johnny Sexton lines a shot at goal up.

    Scotland 0-0 Ireland

Scotland just about gather the kick-off, and eventually Finn Russell clears just out of their 22.

Ireland claim their first lineout and can get on the attack early.

Scotland recently haven't been able to deal with Ireland's power. If they can deal with that, like they did with England's power, they could come out on top

The teams are out, and it's dry at Murrayfield (for now).

The anthems are about to echo around the empty stadium.

Prediction time. Thumbs up for the home side, Scotland, thumbs down for Ireland.
