South Africa 9-3 British and Irish Lions

Luke Cowan-Dickie sends a very cheeky short line-out to Rory Sutherland at the front, but it gives South Africa another scrum.

Faf de Klerk sarcastically applauds in Cowan-Dickie's face. He may be 5ft 7in, but the South Africa scrum-half fears no one.

  4. Penalty - South Africa 9-3 British and Irish Lionspublished at 27 mins

    Handre Pollard

The Lions have got to clean up these penalties. It feels like they have the upper hand in every area except the scoreboard.

South Africa 6-3 British and Irish Lions

Cheslin Kolbe gets hold of the ball and it really only serves as a reminder that we haven't seen much of him yet today.

South Africa have an advantage as they attack on the Lions' 22. Willie le Roux knocks on but we come back for another kickable penalty after Elliot Daly is penalised on the floor.

Siya Kolisi is a machine! But not as much of a machine as Maro Itoje...

The South Africa captain barges his way towards the 22 but Itoje makes a heroic turnover. The fans would be singing his name by now. Hope you are at home.

    2009 Lions winger Ugo Monye

Slow start for the Lions and three penalties conceded and two kickable ones from which Pollard converted.

Small details hurting the Lions. Offside from Van der Merwe, late hit from Curry and scrum indifference. South Africa most definitely settled the quicker out of the two teams. Physical, quick and engaging.

    Who remembers this?

An interception, a 70m sprint and an almighty roar.

A highlight of Ugo Monye's time on the 2009 Lions tour and the perfect time for us to announce a huge BBC Sport live text signing... we've got the man himself!

Another turnover for Maro Itoje! Is he at his best in a Lions shirt? It seems so.

Dan Biggar immediately kicks the ball away and Elliot Daly tries to nab the ball on the floor, but instead concedes another penalty - their fourth of the match.

Handre Pollard will kick to touch this time.

South Africa 3-0 British and Irish Lions

Faf de Klerk puts a very clever kick out of reach for Stuart Hogg but it doesn't matter anyway because Tom Curry is in trouble...

He banged into De Klerk after he'd kicked the ball so that's another penalty for the Springboks and another chance for Handre Pollard to add three points.

South Africa 3-0 British and Irish Lions

This has been a breathless first 15 minutes and, with the entire South Africa squad having spent six days isolating in hotel rooms recently, they may struggle to keep up this pace.

The hosts have the lead for now as Maro Itoje and Eben Etzebeth have their first real ding dong of the match, ending in Etzebeth lying with his face on Itoje's face.

South Africa come away from the debacle with another scrum.

The second scrum has very much gone the Springboks way as well as they win a penalty.

Faf de Klerk tries to send another sneaky kick over the top but Anthony Watson says no thank you as he weaves his way through defenders to safety.

But the Lions give the ball away again and South Africa are attacking just outside the Lions 22.
