South Africa 0-0 British and Irish Lions

The eagerly awaited scrum stays up and South Africa managed to get the ball out but lose possession.

All of a sudden Anthony Watson is in a foot race with South Africa number eight Kwagga Smith after Stuart Hogg's kick.

The wing can't get there before the ball has gone dead. Lots of exciting Lions attack already.

We'll come back for a penalty - the Springboks have a scrum inside the Lions half.

South Africa 0-0 British and Irish Lions

The Lions are playing with advantage and Dan Biggar tries a kick through. It gets nowhere and much to Stuart Hogg's delight we come back for the Lions penalty. Think the Scotland full-back's clapping was the most enthusiastic I've seen in my life.

South Africa 0-0 British and Irish Lions

An excellent steal from Maro Itoje as Faf de Klerk fumbles the ball, but Ali Price's kick is coolly dealt with by Handre Pollard.

De Klerk tries a cheeky chip through, but it comes to nothing and after almost seven minutes of play we can finally take a breath!

Agreed Jordan, that might have been a life or death situation for me too.

Elliot Daly is still going strong thankfully. South Africa are trying to find a way through the Lions defence inside their opponents' half.

Wow. Elliot Daly takes a HUGE hit.

He rebounds off Lukhanyo Am as if the Springboks centre were a brick wall.

After all that excitement, the full-backs exchange a bit of kick tennis.

The Springboks go for a long line-out over the top, but Faf de Klerk's kick is gathered well by Duhan van der Merwe.

Ali Price sends one up in return and Tom Curry drags the receiving Handre Pollard into touch.

The Lions keep hold of their line-out and send a testing kick up for Cheslin Kolbe. Duhan van der Merwe is after it!

But no, someone was offside. A promising start for the Lions though. The Kolbe v Van der Merwe battle gets going even sooner than expected.

    It's time!

Almost feels a bit surreal but we finally have some Lions Test rugby. Dan Biggar gets us up and running.

This is only South Africa's second Test match since winning the World Cup in 2019 so fans or no fans, it must feel good to be belting out the anthem again.

Siya Kolisi seems to be enjoying it and the camera rather cheekily pans to South African-born Lion Duhan van der Merwe.

Handre Pollard jogs through a cloud of green smoke to take to the pitch on his own on the occasion of his 50th cap.

The hosts are doing their best to build this up without fans. There are pyrotechnics all over the place and Impi warriors take to the field to lay down a challenge for the Lions.
