London Irish prop Ollie Hoskins is set for his Australia debut off the bench after the Wallabies relaxed a rule that previously meant overseas-based players had to have at least 60 Test caps and seven seasons in Super Rugby to represent their country.

The 28-year-old's call-up comes after concussions ruled out Allan Alaalatoa and Taniela Tupou.

James Slipper switches from his usual loose-head to start at tight-head for the first time in nine years, with 21-year-old Angus Bell on the other side of the front row.

Full-back Kurtley Beale, 32, makes his first Wallabies start since the World Cup defeat by England in 2019, while Nic White and James O'Connor continue as a half-back pairing after starting last weekend's defeat by Scotland.

Australia: Beale; Kellaway, Ikitau, Paisami, Wright; O'Connor, White; Bell, Fainga'a, Slipper, Arnold, Rodda, Leota, Hooper, Valetini.

Replacements: Latu, Robertson, Hoskins, Skelton, Samu, McDermott, Lolesio, Perese.

  2. 'Smith would have more options with Tuilagi'published at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2021

It would be very difficult for Australia to completely mark a Marcus Smith-Manu Tuilagi partnership.

It is not the same with Owen Farrell. If you had Manu on the outside of Marcus Smith, it gives Marcus so many more options.

I get what the England coaching staff are saying that he is surrounded with Owen Farrell and Ben Youngs but do you want that sort of influence over Marcus Smith? I'm not sure.

    England v Australia (17:30 GMT)

Once again England had to make a late change yesterday because of a positive coronavirus test.

Loose-head prop Ellis Genge is now isolating and given Joe Marler had already tested positive earlier in the week, uncapped Sale prop Bevan Rodd will start and Newcastle prop Trevor Davison comes onto the bench.

Challenging that for story of the week was news that centre Manu Tuilagi would start on the wing as Marcus Smith and Owen Farrell form the 10-12 partnership with Henry Slade at 13.

Uncapped Sale scrum-half Raffi Quirke is one of two backs on a bench that features number 8s Alex Dombrandt and Sam Simmonds.

England: Steward; Tuilagi, Slade, Farrell (capt) May; Smith, Youngs; Rodd, George, Sinckler, Itoje, Hill, Lawes, Underhill, Curry.

Replacements: Blamire, Davison, Stuart, Ewels, Dombrandt, Simmonds, Quirke, Malins.
