    England 17-9 South Africa

Oops. Trevor Nyakane runs into Cobus Reinach's pass leaving a dangerous loose ball close to South Africa's tryline.

The Springboks manage to clear their lines and Joe Marchant is caught offside to return possession to South Africa - who have a penalty.

Handre Pollard gives the crowd a laugh as he slips onto his back in the process of kicking the ball to touch.

An impressive long-range effort from Pollard keeps South Africa in it as the fly-half has done so many times before.

The Twickenham crowd jeers once again as Maro Itoje concedes a penalty and Handre Pollard decides to go for goal.

The players are probably more grateful for the break after this rapid start.

Paul David Opie: England playing brilliant stuff. Smith dynamic. Steward imperious. 14-3 and no Rassie Erasmus!

Stoney: Thankfully Freddie Steward is growing into international rugby far better than he’s growing a moustache!

Obviously Paul's message was sent before the latest penalties. Hard to keep up with this one!

Tom Curry wins a penalty and Marcus Smith turns it into three points.

The Twickenham crowd coming over like French bonviveurs after their team's blockbuster start.

Handre Pollard's decision to go for the poles is jeered as if England wouldn't steady the ship in exactly the same way.

Haven’t seen England attack like this for a long time, with lovely hands from Slade and Steward freeing Malins and beating the Bok blitz.

South Africa respond with a trademark maul and Pollard penalty. Great game so far.

Handre Pollard kicked 22 points in the World Cup final.

This brings his tally to six so far today.

South Africa look pretty slick off their scrum, too.

England scramble across the field in defence and manage to halt the challenge.

But the Springboks were playing advantage and Handre Pollard will get the chance at three more points.

    England 14-3 South Africa

This feels like tournament rugby rather than an autumn Test.

Every England player looks so hyped up by the challenge of facing the world champions at home. As you'd expect, the World Cup final defeat hurt and this is the chance to ease some of that pain.

South Africa look springy, though, and Jonny May is forced to put up a nerveless clearing kick in the face of a renewed Springbok attack.

A hearty chorus of Swing Low rings around the Twickenham stands as England enter dreamland.

A penny for the thoughts of Rassie Erasmus wherever he is tuning in from. The fringe defence for Freddie Steward's surge over was uncharacteristically flakey.

    Freddie Steward (Con Marcus Smith)

Make that within 0m of another try!

England recycle the ball quickly from the scrum to get Malins down the right wing.

Then, off the back of a ruck Ben Youngs sends a short ball to Freddie Steward and the new England star can't be brought down despite the efforts of no fewer than four South Africans.

Marcus Smith is flawless from the tee so far.

    England 7-3 South Africa

Freddie Steward has been so reliable in the air for England this autumn, but he couldn't get to that one.

Instead, the full-back bumps into team-mate Kyle Sinckler and South Africa retain possession.

The Springboks go right but Maro Itoje is PUMPED and dislodges the ball from Lukhanyo Am's hands to win a scrum for his side.

Jonny May is caught off guard by a bouncing ball after Willie le Roux's kick. The knock-on means a South Africa penalty and "chilled" captain Courtney Lawes isn't so chilled now the match has started.

He grabs a few Springbok shirts in frustration but referee Andrew Brace manages to calm everyone down.

Handre Pollard will go for goal.
